Mopar performance head gaskets
I ordered the MP upper gasket kit for my 1986 GLH turbo but got the kit for the 1989 and newer engine. I haven't heard anything back from the vendor I bought this from but I would like to know if I can use the '89 and newer head gasket on my 1986 engine.
I know I need a different valve cover gasket too, but I am already three weeks behind and don't want to wait another two to three weeks for another gasket kit.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
Yep, use the 005 gasket-

Just go to the dealer and order end seals for the gasket, the middles use RTV.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
Thanks.
If anyone needs a one piece gasket, I have one.
I ordered the lower gasket kit also, It came without the front main seal. I should have just bought a kit at the parts store.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
Andy, I'm 80% sure I've got at least one of the proper 005(last 3 digits of the part#) MP headgaskets sitting in the garage. I always keep a few spares around. The 89's use the 006 gasket, which doesn't have the same cooling passages opened up. No problem running an 005 on a newer engine, but I wouldn't run an 006 on an older one. If you need one this week let me know. May have some of the other gaskets also, have an entire shelf of 2.2 gaskets.

Nah, run the 005 on everything.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
The gasket I have is Mopar part #5281065. I'm guessing it's not right

If I can't get one from Hub, I may take you up on your offer. Thanks.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
I run the 005 on everything too. ROL gaskets look identical to the MP gasket. They have the same gasket listed for all 8 valve's from 81 - 94. This is the 005 style.

That sounds like the Mopar replacement which for all I can tell is identical to the MP 005 gasket minus the Mopar Performance logo. It should work fine for you.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
I called Hub Chrysler in Milwaukee. They show the 1065 gasket as a catch all for all the 2.2 and 2.5 engines. They can still get the 005. I should have a couple tomorrow.
Here's a photo of the 1065:
If anyone has a use for this you can have it.

Andy,
I'll take it.
BTW: This is Joe from Bumper to Bumper.
Re: Mopar performance head gaskets
Chris at TU said he upper gasket kit for the older engines is no longer available. The lower kit doesn't come with all the parts. Both are Mopar.
$50 more in seals and gaskets to get the engine put together. Between this and my rusting, POS 2005 Grand Caravan, Chrysler's working it's way to the top of my $h!t list.
On a better note, here are some crappy cell phone pics of the motor so far:

I used a 2005 head gasket.

.
If your putting together a CB engine its got everything. if your not then you have to purchase the separate I-shaft/early crankshaft seal separatly. Not a big deal but if your not aware of that little gotcha then I can understand the frusteration. I did find it weird that the gasket kit includes both types of oil pan end seals though.
