86 LeBaron Digital Dash - dim digital dash lights question
I replaced the digital dash gauges in FUNATIC a few years ago. The oil pressure and gas gauges have since then always been a bit dimmer than the other gauges.
Any way to boost the lighting up in these older digital gauges?
They are all hard to read when the sun is behind and this is a top down all the time convertible.
Also, the oil pressure gauge reads all the way up to the top until after the engine has been running for at least five minutes and then jumps up and down for another five minutes or so - even at freeway speeds - until it finally evens out to +/- steady oil pressure. Possibly just an old dirty sending unit...
Any help on this much appreciated. FUNATIC
Re: 86 LeBaron Digital Dash - dim digital dash lights question
Hi,
Although I have no idea about the oil pressure issue, I currently have 4 Turbo K cars (well, one's a GTS) and they all have digital. I've also owned 2 others in the past. The one thing I have noticed is that the 86's (new design) do tend to have segments that are brighter than others, but I've never seen where an entire gauge is dimmer.
I have replaced a couple digi readouts (entire unit) and I notice that they are different (some brighter than others). However, every time I'm at a junk yard (the 'old fashioned ones, not the "make $ off you every chance we get) and they have the dashes I buy them. I have just taken the dim ones out and put another in.
As for the top down, I've got that same issue with the dimmer segments, and the only way I can see anything on the digi-dash is if the brightness is all the way up.
I know it's not an answer (sorry), but I suspect it's just that unit.
