What inner tie rod do I need?
Like the title said. I'm in the middle of replacing the inner tie rod (89 Daytona Shelby rack). I thought I had the correct replacements. Anyhow I don't and can't find the correct replacement on Rock Auto website.Attachment 60069
The one on the left is my original.

The one on the right is my original.
Thanks, Marc
Re: What inner tie rod do I need?
The two crusty looking ones are for a 'TRW' style steering rack.
Re: What inner tie rod do I need?
what makes the other two not right??
Re: What inner tie rod do I need?
The one with the end turned down is for a Saginaw steering rack. The TRW one with the full hex cut on it looks like an original equipment and the other TRW one with just the two wrench flats looks like an aftermarket replacement. FWIW the last time I went through this I used AC Delco professional on the inners Here and they seem to be ok. Made in Taiwan, used to be USA but anything else is still better than Moog.
Edit: looking back I see I mis-read the picture descriptions and skipped over the difference. Buy one listed for a 'TRW' rack.
Re: What inner tie rod do I need?
The one in the center would work, is 3/16 inch shorter and would leave 1 inch of penetration into outer tie rod. Also the notch for the rack boot is 3/8 of a inch back. Both replacements are Raybestos brand. The one in the center would be safe to use, but the differences are enough to question it.
Re: What inner tie rod do I need?
After looking at a few online part stores, none of the TRW style inner tie rods looked like the original. I went ahead and used the tie rod in the center. It fit and worked perfectly fine.
