A good item to store beside your spare HEP...

Last night while I was a mile from work, the 1/2" rubber coupling ruptured on the turbo coolant line. I thought how to I get out of this as I don't carry 1/2 heater hose in my trunk???
To my rescue was a roll of Permatek self sealing silicone tape. I cleaned up the busted hose and wrapped with the tape. It got me home without a problem. This afternoon, I replaced the busted hose.
I was very impressed how solid the repair became and it was extremely difficult to tear off even the smallest piece of tape.
Thought I would share the good news..

Thanks. I've never seen or used any of that from what I can recall. I'll have to pick some up.

After mine did that after blowing off a Mustang GT, I ordered a set of the Aeroquip style from Cindy.

I know Cindy is good but I didn't realize she delivered to the side of the road at night!!

She didn't, I nursed it home with the cap loose (I was only about a mile from my house) and did a hose and clamps fix, but decided I wanted something better. It was also broad daylight.

I have this sitting on the shelf from TU, but until the CSX is on the road (hopefully shortly) I am concern about touching the 32 year old brass fittings on the turbo.

ive had that hose blow out before. I just replaced it with 1/2 heater hose. its been fine ever since.

put a wrench on the brass fitting and a wrench on the tube nut.... if you dont youll snap off he fitting in the turbo.

I'd rather walk home than put radiator stop leak in one of my cars (lol). They should tout on the "miracle-in-a-can" that it is guaranteed to plug up your heater core too.

had a buddy lose that sme water hose on the off ramp .. hwy 401 to morningside
hose burst as he went into the curve away from the highway on the off ramp
car turned 360* with two passengers & a car alongside
just pure luck he had no issue that night

it and the oil hose are good things to replace every two or three years .

his oil line actually popped a couple of weeks later but he was lucky just idling in the coffee shop parking lot..
big rainbow on the ground when he went to step out..it was raining

I'll add , never use brass fittings for oil pressure switches or senders .. my oil switch hit the hood like a bullet .. all the oil left instantly .. I WAS "on it"

but my front clip was forever rustproofed

Funny, I just saw this product on MotorWeek this past Tuesday, and I was doubtful when they said it was good for temporary hose repair. Pretty cool!

I've never had a problem.

i never had issues with stop leak in my old subaru that was externally leaking from the headgaskets. got me a few more years before i did the headgaskets. it was the kind with walnut shells in it.

pepper works as a stop leak in a pinch.

A little off the topic, but if I am putting that go-bag together, can anyone tell me what HEP I need for my 1989 LeBaron GTC with the 2.2L factory TII? Are aftermarket OK? Does anyone have one for sale? I have seen a few different part numbers. Thanks!

I've had the same luck with the aftermarket turbo HEPs from a place like Rockauto as I have with the factory ones. The HEPs are all the same for the turbo cars from 86 up.

best hep advice .. look for the aftermarket one with the soft rubber insolation rather than the hard "phone cable" like leads the factory heps had

it's the hard insolation that breaks the little wee goofy wires inside

it only gets worse as indoor wiring insulation gets harder in an outdoor heat soaked environment

I've had the same hep since about say .. "93
it's been used daily in every TM car I owned .. about 7 daily drivers
it's in the charger I have now (bad heo when bought)

I scooped it the wrecker's one day .. no idea how old it already was

but those rubber leads .. still soft as day one ..

problem solved

like the stock ford coils in my 5.4 f150..
after 16 I stopped buying the factory crap as it's THE ORIGINAL source of the problem

why reward them for faulty designs ??

I typically buy stuff from Advance Auto, but I cannot find it there (at least with an online search). Here's one I assume will work from eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aftermarket...5.c10#viTabs_0. But this looks like it might have the "phone cable" leads Johny was referring to. The one in my car is fine, but I wanted to get a backup. Thoughts about this one from eBay?

the standard motor products LX125 has the softer wires i think.

standard blue streak distributor caps and rotors work well too fyi.
