Manual transaxle types vs model / year list?
I've been trying to find documentation showing what model transmissions came in what year / model cars. I thought I had come across one at some time but cannot find it again for the life of me.
A520
A525
A523
A543
A555
A568
I'm trying to wrap my head around which is what, what internals can interchange, which had the reverse in top left vs bottom right etc etc.
Thanks for any links / help.

And as sure as the sun rises I found the link I was looking for <10 minutes after making this post.

That being said. 1989 Caravan 2.5T 5 speed with the A555. Will any A520 bolt in if I were in a pinch and needed something to run the van with?
For some reason I'm under the impression that the vans have an extra mount or something on the case that makes them van only transmissions?
Thanks again folks.
Re: Manual transaxle types vs model / year list?
Minivan 555 transmission had a two pinion differential. All other 555 transmissions had a 4 pinion diff. Technically the van 555 is weaker.
A 520 bolt into the van. The 520 and 555 use the same case.

Yes, I know we need to update the TM KC but most of it is still there

Ahh I see. So there's no difference in the mounting points in van vs car? The difference would be shifter linkage and that's why a 520 is a bolt in? Just wanting to make sure I understand.

If there is a difference, it's accounted for in the mount. I don't know about the vans, but the L body used a different mount from all the other cars rather than modifying a case.
Re: Manual transaxle types vs model / year list?
Just the mounts/bracketry is different. The trans are the same between car and van.
If you want to convert the '89 Caravan to A523 or A568 it would only require changing the shifter and cables and clutch. The A523 are plentiful in the junkyards and way better than the A520.

Ahh that makes sense. Shifter since different shift pattern, clutch because of larger input shaft and cables.
If van specific manual transmission parts weren't so hard to come by I would probably just pick up a 523 and swap it for now.
With that knowledge if I get a chance to get 1990 Caravan shifter + cables I will pick them up to have the option.
Isn't there also bracketery on the transmission end that the cables attach to? If so are those the same van to car?
Re: Manual transaxle types vs model / year list?
It's really more dependent on drivetrain than body, as to which trans came with what.

523/543/568 came in large and small spline versions... So the clutch might not be different.

minivan shifter cables I think are different. Shorter I believe, so longer car cables should work...
Re: Manual transaxle types vs model / year list?
Why is the 1988 Caravan listed as a different interchange than all the other 1988 Dodge manual transmissions?
Could it just be the FD ratio?

could be.. the van might have got the 3.85:1 instead of 3.50:1 ?
