1990 Consulier GTP Targa build
Looks like I am the first to start a thread on the GTP.
First, photos that were sent to me with the car at the factory.
Factory is at the Florida coast, I am on the Oregon coast.

The car was delivered today (7-12-13) to the guy that is going to hopefully prep it for travel.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Can't wait to see it in person! Are you planning to paint it?
how about any upgrades? Big nasty turbo poking out the back :)
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Painting it white..no plans...yet.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Very cool! Looking forward to more progress:nod:

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Does the car have a top or are you going to bring along an industrial roll of stretch wrap in case it rains?
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
when it rains all he has to do is drive faster, won't get wet that way.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
This car never had a top made for it.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
What year/number is it Johnny?
You know industrial packing wrap could work great for rain. I have tons of that stuff right here and I never thought of it. Just need to fit a rod or something towards the top of the windshield to secure to.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
In on one. Congrats on the new purchase Johnny.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Congrats on the purchase, I think that supertrap muffler would be the first to go.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
I was told....New battery installed today. Turn key and wiper motor runs, but not the fuel pump. Fuel smells like varnish.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Are you planning to drive it home?
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Just awesome! I am SOOO jealous! I have been wanting to build a light mid/rear engine car for years. These have all the hard work done AND use our motors. As much as I love my 8Vs if I could have bought one I would be doing a srt motor swap. You also could swap in that nice raffle motor you have ;)! Could you take some pics of the shift linkage? I am curious how they did it.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Car is in Florida. Yes I plan on driving it home if the service of it all works out.
Today, was told fuel filters bought and fuel pump ordered to be picked up Monday.

REPORT: (Filters and fuel pump installed)
Yes. Got it running. Still need to flush more fluids, etc.. waiting for green light from the salvage yard for me to bring them all of your old fuel (which is now not fuel...it's varnish) Can't drain any more fluids until I can get rid of that old gas.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Congrats so far as you don't have the electrical gremlins I have. So far everyone's car has started with fresh battery and fluid changes except for mine.
Keep the updates coming.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Johnny, I know where your car is! It is in VERY good and capable hands! :thumb: I kinda thought that was where it was going to go. (no, I'm not saying the exact location because it has never been posted)
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
I've got a guess...
But I don't want to say, since its never been posted... :D
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
I'm trying to think in Florida who is that capable. I can think of one...
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
He reported to me just now....AND it needs too much....I am going to have it picked up.
It runs and moves. At least that is a good thing for the transporter. Now to find one....
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
I have no idea :D is it some turbo dodge legend?
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Bummer but I got to say, I'm kind of relieved.
From the quotes I got the running part should save you a few hundred.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Easier to find out now than in the middle of the desert.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
PART of the note I got:
Radiator need replace?
Water pump OK?
A/C?
Heater core?
Brakes? (other than fronts which we know are bad)
Clutch pedal appears to be working.
As far as the brakes...when you just softly touch the brake pedal, the
brakes lock so you have to let out the clutch and give it gas (at which
time it fights the brakes to get the car moving). (and no, the e-brake is
not on)
In summary: It's a super neat car. Unfortunately, it's been sitting for
many years, (again not sure what they told you, but regardless of what they
told you, it's been sitting for a long, long, time.). I'm surprised I was
able to get it at least started without changing more parts so far, but
again, the cooling system is the real issue here.

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Ouch!!! Once you get it home do some research on vinegar flushing. I have had great results with it. Then again 2.2s are so cheap to rebuild I would probably just tear it down if I had the space and time. Or you could just install the raffle motor in it....
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
With all of that in the coolant system I would make sure to remove and flush that radiator. Cause, I'm sure a new one would only cost you $2k ish to have made.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Forget flushing that radiator.

He can just have the radiator recored
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
There is a real good radiator shop here....we will get it cleaned and fixed up.
-
Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Ouch...sorry to see that I wonder if that ever had anything other than water in it. That is a lot of corrosion.

Haha. So true. Just dont break the windshield while transporting it. Thats another $2g.
These cars arent for the light of wallet if anything breaks. I do have Slowe Speed working on mine so not worried about too many parts as he can fabricate most anything. Radiator and Glass excluded.

Why couldn't he do the rad? Get a custom core and weld up the tanks?

Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa
Wow Johnny, where are you going to find bushings for that thing?
