Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
Makes sense - they pulled pretty much the entire front end and interior out to put the vnt motor/555 trans and the shelby seats/door panels etc., so it wouldn't be that much more to replace the entire harness at that point.
Based on the body tag actually stating Shelby CSX and listing plymouth hood, grill, 60/40 split seat, etc., it seems like the 89's were specifically produced on the manufacturing line for Shelby with custom parts. I wonder if they deleted anything as part of that build? Wiring harnesses maybe?
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
I thought I remember reading/hearing that the csx vent was shipped to Shelby with a tii daytona engine and trans in it. That's why I thought they would have been shipped with a stock wiring harness. Since the p body cars changed wiring and connectors under the dash in 90 I thought it would have been way easier to mod the ti harness as there is no bulkhead connector Than to make 500 one off custom jobs.
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
The info for the CSX-VNT on the Shelby Registry website states they did come from the factory equipped with TII motor and trans, and Shelby replaced the turbo with the VNT. Then according to the Shelby Supplement, it details other electrical changes besides the SBEC, some of those included under dash wiring changes. This was probably because of the lack of a bulkhead connector.
I looked for Dempsey Bowling's website as it had the most complete info on the changes Shelby made to all the Wittier cars. But alas, it is no more. Such a shame as it was a great reference.

Thanks for the link David!
I've tried the wayback machine for different sites a few times but I must be miserable with search terms as I have never gotten any meaningful results there.

LOL - I was just coming here to post this link: https://web.archive.org/web/20070201....com/~dempsey/
That's to the root of the archives for the old site.
Yup - you can retrieve quite a bit of historical content from that site. As long as the content didn't require you to log in, it's pretty much guaranteed to be archived there! The easiest way is to copy and paste part of the old sites address (e.g. - for the link above, I typed xmission.com/~dempsey into the search and immediately found archives all the way back to 1999.

When we took the Putnam Ave tour in '93,. there were a couple of BIG industrial dumpsters full of 'Take Off' turbos. I'll never forget that sight. New 'Junk" TII turbos... Pretty sure they all hit the trash when the place was raised.
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
I checked the supplement and it didn't state definitively one way or the other if the harness was modified, or a specific unit.
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
but there not the same as the 90 vnt, i did some repairs on mine and on the 89 csx harness the plugs aren't the same as the 90 stuff for the sub harnesses, so its definitely a shelby part id say since there aren't any others made with the 89 style plugs and sbec computer

That's correct. Regardless of if they started off as Shadow TI harnesses which were modified by Shelby, or if they were a harness specifically made for the CSX, they're a bastard child. The harnesses changed in a huge way in 90, especially under the dash so IMO if a guy couldn't find an actual CSX harness, it would be easiest to use a TI Shadow harness from 89 and modify it to work with the SBEC.
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
Hi: thinking about buying a csx for about 5k. But it seems to not have the correct front airdam. The car is an 89. Is there two different airdams?
thanks for any help,
jm
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
It may be a kaminari replacement piece ?
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
Most likely. There was only one front air dam for the cars, but they were destroyed so often many, if not most have been replaced. From what I understand, Kaminari is currently making one that is very similar to the original. I guess the sides are normal again, but the portion of the opening that goes back into the stock bumper doesn't go back as deeply.
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
ok, that makes sense to me now. Any chance of getting a real 89 spoiler reproduction or real one? Or are they like gold and new available:)?
thanks,
jm
Where should I post to see who has an 89 csx for sale???:_
Re: The Shelby CSX-VNT Owner's Thread
Kaminari is the company who made the originals. They are still selling very similar pieces to the originals, but there are some differences.

In the "Cars" section of the Exchange forums (bottom of main forum page). See that area for examples of "Wanted" listings.
