Turbo Mopar's Car of the Month - June 2009
Jeremy's (neonsox) 1987 Shelby Lancer #63!

Shelby was originally asked to do his version of Dodge's H Body to be a sport sedan to compete against the BMW 535i. Many thought this was crazy but we know different! Here is a beautiful low mileage example of the highly desirable breed!

A little history: My first Turbo Mopar was a white/gray '89 Daytona Shelby that I bought the summer I graduated HS (1997). I learned to drive on an '89 base model, but the turbo made a HUGE difference. I drove that car everywhere and put some serious mileage on it. I ended up regretfully selling it after a wrist pin got loose and gouged up a cylinder wall. Ever since then, I've had various G and J bodies throughout the years, some turbo and some not. The Lancer is my first H-body and first four door Turbo Mopar. It's a great car, a blast to drive, and I hope to keep it in great shape for a long time.

All original Shelby items... [Read More]

Chris Ellis' (Gearhead24-7) 1988 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo custom!

Chrysler used the name "LeBaron" on several different bodys over the years but leave it to Chris to customize and build once serious dream LeBaron from two separate cars after an accident!

The history of this car starts in 1996 when I bought my first Lebaron. It was a Twilight Blue premium convertible, with all the toys. It spent the next 7 years as my daily driver, then I decided to get into some custom work. I pulled the TI/413 in favor of a TII/555, did the GTC big brake swap, and and fresh coat of Viper Blue/Silver. About a week after paint dried, some talking on her cell phone blows a red light, and my baby is gone. The body was toast, but everything else survived, including me.

"We have the technology...to make her faster...stronger...more capable and better looking than she was before...."

So, the search began for a... [Read More]

Justin's (Turbo84Voyager) 1984 Plymouth Voyager Turbo conversion!

Chrysler didn't offer a turbo minivan when they introduced them in late 1983 but they should have! If they did, they might have looked like this prime example! If they don't make it, build it yourself!

The van started life as a 2.2 carb 5-spd van. I converted it to a 2.5 turbo and made many modifications to the van over the years. The van has been in the family since it was new and it's 25th birthday was the other day (Built 1/28/84)! I did all of the work including the electrical and harness on the van except for the machine work and applying the paint ( I wasn't painting at the time ) I did do the color sanding and buffing. The van has vinyl buckets and is the LE model. Most LE models came with Woody sides and very few had 5-spd's. I have entered the van in several car shows and did part of the 2006 Power Tour in it. It is a blast to drive. With the 2.2 I used to turn the A/C... [Read More]

Troy's (turbojerk) 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT #282!

Exactly as Carroll built it, it still wears its original tires! With only 17000 miles on it, why wouldn't?!? (Unless I burned the tires off at a stop light! ) Enjoy this unrestored example of the world's first VNT Turbo car!

I'm the 2nd owner of the car if you don't count the dealership. The original owner bought it from Papa's Dodge/Shelby in New Britain, Connecticut in late '89 and when asked, he said he wasn't sure just why he bought it in the first place. He drove the car sparingly (Obviously) over the time he owned it until he decided to use it as a trade-in at Papa's on a new Dodge Ram early in 2008.

I first saw the car up at 2008 All Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, PA in the cars FS field/area with a stiff price of $9,000 listed on the... [Read More]

Scott Lasky's (slasky) 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo!

An original 53,000 mile Survivor! This first year of Chrysler Turbo Car beauty really shows off the clean lines the designers went for on the 1st Generation G-Bodies. The story about the original owner just makes it that much more special!

A good family friend, who worked as a tech for my father at Smith haven Dodge, bought this new in 1984. It was his first and last new car he bought. While I was at work with my father one day, the MP computer came in for the car. He was busy working so he asked me to put it in for him. Then he told me to take it for a spin. I was only 15 and did not have a license or even a permit. I had driven a car before but this was the first time I drove one by myself. So this is the actual car that started my TM addiction.
He took it off the road in 1993 and it sat in his garage first and then eventually ended up outside. He always said he... [Read More]

Bill Baker's (30 PSI SHADOW) Turbo III 1983 Dodge Rampage!

L Bodies have a tight engine compartment, but that didn't stop Bill Baker from swapping in a Turbo III from a Spirit R/T and building one bad, blue, and beautiful Shelby-ized Turbo Truck!

I purchased the truck in Arizona in 1997 when i lived out there for a measly $500 bucks!! No rust and even still had the original muffler which was rust free!! It came with the "Prospector" package in white with black bottom. A carb 2.2 with auto powered it.
Back in Vermont i spent the last 5 years restoring this 1983 gem. It was torn down to the shell, flipped it,and cleaned and sanded the underside. The entire truck was covered in 98 Viper blue pearl. I added the shelby nose, and then redid the inside with a mint set of 89 CSX non recaro seats and the shelby steering wheel.
Now for the good stuff! It is now 91 spirit R/T powered! Here are the specs..

Mike Mills' (Mike M) 88 Dodge Lancer Shelby!

Rare, Quick, and totally Restified, Mike's Lancer shows as one member stated, "H Bodies Rule!"

Well, I truly achieved my goals with this car! My basic goals for this build were simply to be able to drive it reliably, take it to a car show (at least show it when its nice), and I had a dream of running a 12 second quarter mile.

Body and paint
-Repainted factory Oxford white
-Extensive rust repair, quarters, rockers, inner fenders - all metal.
-Side moldings removed
-Antenna shaved
-Positive Impressions decal package
-ES front foglight grills
-New windshield at time of paintjob

Interior & Gauges
-Redyed all interior plastic
-Replaced headliner
-Replaced front leather seats with good donor seats
-Floor is all sound deadened
-Relocated sunroof switch to... [Read More]
