Why is the cold timing advance table higher than the warm table?

It will help bring your idle speed up to decrease warmup time.

Will changing this also help with smoother idling or no?

actually that table has no effect on idle speed. There a table called something like advance when throttle is closed. It's based on coolant temp. Advancing the timing there will help with cold idle.

The cold idle table you're reffering too is supposed to be because the car likes to have some more advance when it's cold than when it's warm. Adjust it by watching the CEL flash or a scanner. It adds timing to the car when it's cold.

Ok, good. I didn't think it had an effect but i needed to be sure.

For the scanner, it shows the total amount of advance being used/added, correct?

well my scanner has a spot that shows timing pulled out from knock retard. I use this to tune my spark curves so I don't have any knock retard. But yes if the scanner should have a spot that shows total advance

Well i hooked up my otc2000 scanner and it shows 4* for adv at in park/neutral and 13* adv in drive.

I bought my pathfinder cartridge with out the manual so i am not too sure on if it is total advance or timing being pulled or what. The scanner just says "ADV"

Base timing is at 12*, does that not get added on the scanner?

the scanner shows the electronic amount of advance... I dont think it adds the 12deg in.

4* idle, 4*+12*=16*
13* in drive, 13*+12*=25*

It shows 16* driving around town: 16*+12*=28*

Where would the 4* and 13* be in the cal tables? I can't seem to figure it out. :/

What would have to be calculated to find out?
