View Full Version : Finally - a 3" exhaust

...well sort of. :) I got home today and wanted to throw on the 3" exhaust I had laying around on my van. I quickly got the stock exhaust off, which as we all know really, REALLY sucks.

The lock nut is seized on the downbolt stud on the pass side (atleast it's on the simple side, how often does that happen?) so I have to cut it off. But for tonight, it was all holy-hell-open-downpipe-turbo-whistilin'-in-the-10pm-wind! So pops and I got the 3" Forward Motion downpipe in... all I can say is wow! I cannot believe how much of a difference an exhaust really does make. I can't floor it entirely as the WG is seized as well, but I got you guys a nice clip of it.

Stock mitsu, I'm not worried about creeping because quite simply... it does it anyways! :D I have to pull the head to unseize the WG and if I have enough money to buy the supporting mods for the big turbo I'll throw that on, if not, I'm still not worried as Garrett is running a 3" SV back on a mitsu, and all our mitsu'd cars have had open downpipes and never a problem with creep or spike.

Okay I got it done once before, it turned out real great, but when I went for a drive the freakin' downpipe came undone from the muffler! :bash: :bash: So I ran home and grabbed a 13mm, undid the hangar and threw the rest of the exhaust in the van. I then took the entire system to my muffler shop and they welded the downpipe and muffler together. Not only did he do a shtty job but he welded it in crooked. AGGGHH! Can't win with this thing.

Okay whatever, I want it on. Throw the downpipe on first then hang the exhaust. It came out crooked until I worked the hangar more towards the middle.

Here's what it looks like, please be brutally honest. If you can think of a way that I can make it look better, please let me know.

Thanks,
-Bryan

I think Id get some 5/16 steel rod from a hardware store and and weld it to the pipe so that it hooks in to the stock rubber mount there,it would help it hang up there a little higher and look a little cleaner. Also it may help out with not draging on the ground.Just my opinion other than that it doesnt look that bad.

Well I ran it out for the first real test today. It works great except for over speed bumps, the threads from the clamp for the hangar hit the bumps. It faired well.

PS: I noticed if I hit the speed bump fast enough it will bounce over the bump. ;);)

For the Record I have a custom 3inch SV so mine doesn't spike, you'll have to make one so yours doesn't ;)

All I have is a Turbonetics 2.5". Stock mitsus come with it I think. But again we have 5 TM's. A few had mitsus at one point and ran uncapped (we had cutouts) right at their downpipes. My Spirit had one, the Acclaim now has one, the 89 Voyager had one, and the 89 Caravan had one.
