how do i remove this "pin"? it's hollow & has a slit down the whole length of it. i've tried twisting, punching and nothing seems to make it move.

You do not remove that. The whole joint just slips out of the steering column.

well, if that is the case...how come both instructions i have for removing the steering rack say "remove pinch bolt or roll pin"?

well put it this way you need to lower the K frame if you dont remove that pinch sleeve(otherwise you cant get it to slide off teh steering shaft). I just pounded it out, but I had no motor or trans or much else for that matter in the engine bay

It does just drive out. It doesn't matter which way it goes but it can be tricky to get to and the shaft usually tries to spin when you hit on it. Try to get a straight shot on it and once you get it to move it comes out the rest of the way alot easier.

Drop the k frame and the whole thing slides out just like mentioned above. No need to remove that pin on the car.

I did like 3 k frames today in a mad car swap....much easier this way!

Time to bring this thread back from the dead.

Was there a design change at some point? All my '87 chargers have had the telescoping slip joint. Last night I went to drop the crossmember in my '86 charger, and it hung up. I don't see a slip joint on the '86 rack... only a couple u-joints attached with roll pins.

I looked at the manual rack I was going to put in, and it doesn't have the telescoping joint either. So I've got to pound out these roll pins... couldn't find my 1/4" punch last night, and odd bolts weren't working, so I need to go shopping.
