What are your opinions on a good stall speed for a mostly street but high HP Auto Omni? Do our auto's have a lock-up converter in high gear?

Well they should! I'd hate to be cruising along in 3rd on the highway at 2000rpm with a 2500rpm stall converter. Then again, a 4th would be nice. :| 3 speeds are less than ideal.

you can use a lockup trans just have to get the bigger clutch drums from a turbo trans.Pats converters make a lockup converter with a kevlar disc that will handle high horsepower, there is a guy with a 600 hp neon using this setup and is working quite well.

3300 is stock? That seems high to me but what do I know?

I admittedly know nothing about the Auto's.

I am having Cliff build mine but I really dont know what stall speed is best as I had to factor in street cruising. So 3500rpm or so is good then?

I should note that I am using a 96 2.4 motor for this so I'd be using a Neon style trans case.

...oh and by "lockup trans" are you referring to the 4 speed or was there a 3 speed with lockup?

Now you have me wondering. A 4 speed that can handle the power would be even better.... question is will the OBX work? (it works in the 413 with some sort of spacer)

Your peak power is going up in RPM with the 2.4.
3500 minimum but for race, get the highest one
you can afford (higher stall more money). a 4k
or up convertor would be great, I would go 4200
if I had the option.

Call Hughs performance, ask for Matt Leischer and
tell him Russ sent you.

Turbo's did come with lockups but anyhoo, I am running a high stall in my van, 4000 rpmish, I noticed its quicker around town and dropped a few 10ths at the drag strip. Hasn't affected my cruise RPM at all.

Like Russ said 3500 rpm sounds high but it is really very streetable. For example my converter will stall to 4500 and I cruise on the street and e-way no problem. The lockup setup would be awesome for the street and strip, talk to Steve at Pat's converters he is the turbo dodge guy.He will set your stall speed wherever you want it very reasonable.

I am having Cliff Ramsdell build my trans. I'll talk to him about it. The info given so far has been useful, albiet a bit confusing.

Its not for race though, its for street with just the occasional race.

Also I need to decide on the final drive ratio.

Who has alink to franks Excel chart for final drive ratio's?

As for Matt Leischer, I rem him. He had a 12 sec R/T back when I owned an R/T.

I'm using a Hughes converter I purchased from Gary D a few years ago. Stalls at about 2800 and works just about perfect with my combination.

My brother's Neon has a 2.4 with a stage III/.63 turbo. Stock turbo converter stalls just about perfect on that too.

My Daytona sports a Gary D torque convertor... it stalls at 3500rpms? It works good from what I can tell in my limited driving time.

I've got a 4000 stall in my GLHS with a 2.78 final drive. I have also had a 3.22 final drive. The 3.22 final was fine in my Daytona with 26" tall tires, but was a little steep in the GLHS with 24" tires for the highway (65mph +) but was still doable. I really like this converter. I street drive my car, and I drive it to the track, sometimes 3 hours one way to race it. I am also going on the 4th season with the trans. combo with no problems. I can cruise around with as little a 2000rpm, but once I lay into the throttle, all hell breaks loose. Turbo lag is very minimal, and once the boost hits the engine goes to 5000rpm and stays there until enough speed is made in the car to raise the R's more. The trans. combo has dropped .7 in ET in the 1/8th over a 5 speed in 2 different cars.

yeah my a555 with 205/60 15's should top 172.2 at 6500rpms according to a guy I know who is very good at math. The xls sheet says 162.77. Seems abit off.

It gave me 174.80mph... so rounding between your 'guy' and myself? I know there are some screw ups with the code under the stealth and SHO trannies, but it wasnt effecting the dodge trannies and wasnt this morning.

Your XLS was close enough to get the idea. I know what ratio I want now.
