Does anybody have pictures of a rod shifter setup on a 520/555 transaxle? Anybody here ever done that? I had some pictures saved to my PC but lost them when it crashed.

Mine is rod shifted (GLHS with 555). I have some pics but I'll have to dig them out. I also moved the pivot points to get a short throw shifter to boot!

The above set-up was made by turbojerk (Troy). Not sure if he's on this site yet.

The set-up in the pictures below was done by SilverShelbyZ and a friend of his:

And the offer for credit still stands, if this is your setup. I'll be more than happy to update that site with your name!

how do you keep it rod shifted w/ 555

You have to modify the rod shifter linkage to fit on the 555 like shown in those links above.

This is how I did mine. Will find out this week how the dog-bone lines up.

Thanks! I have an idea how I'll do it. I just don't want to cut up my new SC like I did the silver one. :)

A piece of art... Would you be willing to make and sell a bolt on one??

I would be interested as well. I see my trans coming out in the next few months for a clutch check/replace.

A decent rod shifter will be firmer than a cable setup. The best way to go would be the heim joint setup listed above. Combine that with all poly mounts and a short throw shifter mod, and you will have rock solid shifting. My goal for the GLHS is to build that setup with a 525/555 hybrid tranny.

As for a gate shifer, all you'd have to do is have someone fab a plate out of aluminum. Check around at a local tech school or possibly even high school for kids learning to operate a CNC machine.

I think I'm gonna do the same thing, I've been thinking about it for a while as I have a 520 coming out of my Lebaron that I won't be using anymore, and is in much better shape than the old original 525 in my 'S, since the 'Baron was a TBI car. I figured the rods could be made to work on it but wasn't sure, and I didn't want to cut up my numbered car. Good work guys. Gives me a reason to get back to work on the 'Baron too lol.

I put a new shift rod linkage on my 525 in my glhs. It was ok, but when I switched to the 555, I used the cable shifter and I like it WAY better. The modification was easy, and I tied the cables up so they couldn't move under the car, so the shifting on it is rock solid, yet way smoother than the rod shift setup.

I have a cable shifter in my 1985 Shelby Charger. It's ok, but you have to cut on your car to do it right. I have always liked the feel of the rod shifter better. I think my GLHS shifts WAY better than my Shelby Charger. Also, I don't want to cut up my "new" Shelby Charger, so that's why I want to put the rod shifter on the 520 I'll be putting in the car.
