Has anyone spliced their brake lines on their car? Did you have any trouble with them leaking/coming apart?

Technically you are not supposed to, but if you make inverse flares on each end you should not have any leaks.

I used a compression fitting on my brakes and they are fine.

i've done it on the girlfriends old Buick 88... flared the ends, used some special high-press fittings and stuff, and never had any issues. it helps that a good friend of mine is a manager at Firestone and has access to the hoist and all sorts of cool tools... he helped me with the job.

Reflare and use a flare type connector. NEVER USE a compression fitting on brakes lines.
