View Full Version : 36-1 Trigger Wheel Crank Pulley Adapters

Looks like I'm getting closer in my quest to being able to provide these.
Been working with a local engineer to help design an adapter to mount a 36-1 wheel to the crank pulley for aftermarket ECU conversions.
The adapter will have bolt patterns for the DIYAutotune 36-1 wheels (both the ~6" and ~8"), as well as the Ford pattern 36-1 wheels (the black one in the photos).
The adapter will fit both the FM style underdrive pulley and the factory pulley. Fits with A/C.
Should work with non-A/C pulley, but will be further out from the edge of the pulley, but that would give you clearance to use the smaller trigger wheel even with the factory diameter pulley.

Pictured is the printed prototype. Going to order a working machined prototype soon, to test. I will be test fitting the printed one to the car to check, but we have a couple adjustments already made for the machined prototype.
Going to try to target about $120 with anodizing and new crank pulley bolts.
Depending on numbers, we might be able to get it done a bit cheaper.

Anyone interested in being part of a group buy, please reply here if you want in. Feel free to share. Also if you prefer anodized Black or Clear.
(Majority will win here.)
We are still several weeks out from making an order, but trying to get an idea of interest to better firm up pricing.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/dfbd91c0494c62fbb7ffc7a19483a92e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/2dbb97f94fa0f075fa93a9adc18f3a4f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/899944a5d9ae51b9c2213593e7bdd230.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/b02f283e5e3e32d7e02a52787c6ff717.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/7ee24f580fe0a10c8174360186a51c17.jpg

Pictured is the printed model adapter nested in the underdrive crank pulley and the stock crank pulley.
This wheel is 6.25" or something like that. With the factory crank pulley (and A/C) you'd have to use the 8" wheel.
If no A/C, and the A/C pulley section was removed, you should have clearance to use this wheel pictured.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/e87b602126c83b20e39ad71d6d895959.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210606/f40b2037d039df7f788c8e1bad9deb33.jpg

I need one, when will these be done? This is the latest update:
I was still waiting on 2 quotes, but have not heard from those shops, so I will pick from the 2 shops I have received a quote.

Before we can take formal orders, we need to machine a prototype for testing.

I have been working alot of extra at my real job, but have still been trying to keep this moving. I want to at least fit the printed prototype on my car to check for any issues also before we get into producing any.

Pricing looks like it will either be on target or just under. I will know more once we make some final calculations. I'm targeting August to get these produced, if there are no hold-ups with testing the prototype.

Put me down for one Wayne. I only have the stock pulley so I'm guessing I would need the 8" one?Jon, Does your pulley have the A/C pulley?
I don't have a non A/C crank pulley to show the example, but I think it should work fine for non A/C and using the smaller 36-1 wheel, since there should be adequate clearance for the sensor. If not, then yes the larger 8" wheel would be needed.

Also, if you don't have an A/C compressor, I hear it is possible to seperate the A/C pulley section from the other half.

I will be using the Holley ECM. This looks wonderful. I had to build one for my Duramax Diesel when I went to a NIRA ECM.

One question on the 2.5 platforms. In NHRA stock Eliminator you are not allowed to run a crank trigger unless there is currently one they. Excuse my ignorance, I have yet to put my hands on one of these engines. Have a complete car on the way. I Will be running it in Stock Eliminator when my Jr dragster driver ages out. She has a few months left. I am trying to make the Divisional race in 3 weeks.

Welcome to the site. There isn't a crank trigger on our engines, in stock form if that's what you're asking. They use a hall effect pickup under the distributor cap, and that's it.

one good thing about the distributor setup in our cars is that it keeps the motor from grenading if the intermediate shaft gears that drive the oil pump shear off because the engine stops running.

for those going to crank triggers, use the distributor pickup wheel and a sensor to tell the new ecu what is cyl #1 and if the ecu loses sync, have it shut down.

Got some finished machining pics from DJ Elford at Elford Racing. The adapters are ready to go for anodizing.

Also, we are going to design a trigger sensor mount to work with the Brian Slowe designed trigger sensor bracket, for using this adapter. I would like to have those available to ship together. But that would put delivery to about mid-November due to other production commitments of the manufacturer.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210928/123528cbc2525766fc8bffdab08cfc53.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210928/b20ecf722a35733885a8f06971a21084.jpg

BrianI plan to use the Cherry sensor.
But apparently alot of sensors are the same diameter.
DJ is going to work out the sensor mount based on Brian's designed part, and there should be some built in adjustment to fine tune locating the sensor.
Does Brian have the sensor mounts?

My opinion, but two bolts would be a better idea than just one. If you were planning to have two, please disregard. It's hard to see because of the lighting in that previous pic, but there is a surface of the mount that rides in the bracket groove.
The bolt is just to lock it in place, the machined surface keeps the mount from rotating.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211209/0066b660320c58766fe3016cd7850e7e.jpg

Pictured below are the completed parts!
The Cherry sensor is not included in any package combo but shown here to show compatibility. Other sensors may work as well. The nested nut groove was designed for extra clearance if you need to use the 8.25" trigger wheel.

I've got to get the mounting bolts sized and ordered, and I have already ordered the sensor mount screws & nuts.
I'm working on cleaning up the order page, so the group buy participants who paid deposits can pay their balances to complete their order.
I will post as soon as it is ready.

My plan is to start packing orders as soon as I return from Sick Week in FL.

For anyone who was not part of the group buy (no deposit paid) I will have a limited number of extras available while they last.
The package price for the trigger wheel adapter hub, trigger sensor mount, SloweSpeed bracket, and mounting hardware will be $250 + shipping

Let me know if there are any questions.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220128/7084e8f67d2811333f2ba83623c28666.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220128/a10c1a953bc9eef95736956699f962a8.jpg

UPDATE!
Thank you to all that have responded.
Anyone who responded with plans to use the Ford style trigger wheel and has completed payment, has either received their order, or it is in the process of shipping!

All the other adapters have been shipped back to the manufacturer to be corrected and anodized. These reprocessed adapters will appear as a more matte finish but are still anodized to protect the surface.
In order to be ready to ship out the orders as soon as the adapters are received back, please complete your orders by paying your outstanding balance at https://sites.google.com/view/wheming/home
This page has been updated, removing the Group Buy Enrollment deposits. This may cause some confusion for some of you. See below to find your applicable case for how to proceed. A good number of you receiving this email have not secured a SloweSpeed bracket by paying a deposit when I posted that update, so see below if you indeed want one. (I do not have enough SloweSpeed brackets for everyone who wants adapters because of that lack of response! We will however be able to get more.)

For those that paid a Group Buy Deposit on the Trigger Wheel Adapter AND paid a Group Buy Deposit on the SloweSpeed Crank Trigger Bracket: Pay your balances by scrolling down to the Group Buy Section and add the group buy balances due to your cart. (TIP: Add to the same cart, don't checkout after each cart pops up!) You may also add the Trigger Sensor Mount (there was no deposit required for this, simply add to cart if you would like one.)
For those that ONLY paid a Group Buy Deposit on the Trigger Wheel Adapter and If you ONLY want the Trigger Wheel Adapter; then you can simply pay your Group Buy Balance Due on the Adapter.
For those that ONLY paid a Group Buy Deposit on the Trigger Wheel Adapter and want either/both the SloweSpeed Crank Trigger Bracket or Sensor Mount: You will need to email me (reply to this email) telling me which additional items you want, and I will have to email you a PayPal invoice.
For Anyone that has not paid any deposit: The items have been combined into one package able to be purchased while supplies last. There were some extras, but may not be enough extra for any increased demand. So these will be while supplies last.
For anyone wishing to cancel their order: While the deposit should be non-refundable, I don't want to see anyone unhappy with doing business with me. So contact me and we can arrange a partial refund of your deposit.

And, if there are still any questions, just reply directly to me.

Best regards,
Wayne

I should be able to start shipping out orders next week to those who have paid!
They will go out in order of payment.

Also there are several people who have not completed their orders. So, please complete your orders to prevent your order from being cancelled. I've sent out multiple emails, and I don't have the desire to chase anyone down.
So don't put me in that spot.

Thank you to all that have diligently completed your orders!

Canadian orders will be split to drop ship from the manufacturer, and the remaining items will ship from the US. I have the SloweSpeed brackets and the fasteners here. International shipping is of course extra. The shipping payment already made will cover the shipping from DJ, but you will be contacted with the shipping quote from the US.

If there are any questions, please let me know!

The first 20 or so orders have gone out. Some earliest due to using the Ford pattern wheels.
Now about 16 are on their way between yesterday and today.
Canadian customers have their orders enroute.
Tracking emails sent out via PayPal, so be on the lookout.

Of course, those who haven't completed their orders by paying their balances will not ship until those payments are received.

Anyone who plans to use a Ford pattern trigger wheel who has not received their order, please contact me.

As of tomorrow, all paid orders (with the exception of one waiting on address verification) will have gone out for shipping!

There are a big handful of folks who have not completed their orders, or replied to my emails. So I will make one last email attempt, but I am not going to play nanny much longer.

I will also need to order more SloweSpeed brackets, as I only had enough for those that paid a deposit on them ahead of time.
So if you haven't completed your order, and you want one, please reply so I can place a request for another batch.

If you are referring to the long aluminum bracket, the second one is not visible in the picture. There are two.

deposited....

also.... you know of a place that has that sensor in stock? it appears to be backordered everywhere.

BrianI don't know if you found a sensor yet. I searched all over to find the cherry gs100502 sensor from auto tune. ( or atleast a long threaded version) everywhere is sold out ot backed ordered. Even auto tune said they don't know when it will be back in stock.

Just checked availability and ordered one from dakota digital for $80.00 seems identical, just renamed with there own model number.

We have a customer testing a possible sensor option.
Once we know more it will be posted here.

For anyone looking for a crank trigger sensor, alliedelectronics.com has them in stock. It's a ZF part GS100502. The picture on the website shows a screw on connector type sensor. This is NOT the correct picture. I ordered 2 of them to have on hand and they come with the 3 wires attached. Price is something like $40 each. Not a bad deal and they look like decent items. Just thought I'd toss it out there because i looked forever, this was the only place i could find them in stock and almost gave up as I thought it was the wrong sensor due to the picture.

Edit: I just checked and they are out of stock. They had over 100 of them when I ordered a few days ago. Guess that inventory went quickly. Didn't want to post until I had them in hand and verified they were the correct part. Little too late I guess.

Just to update everyone on the waiting list:

I spoke with Adam Lengel to see if there was any chance of getting the remaining SloweSpeed brackets orders completed before SDAC. Unfortunately he will not have the time yet to manufacture these.
I will update more when I have any new information from him.

So since there are pending orders waiting on these brackets, anyone who would like to cancel, simply contact me. As I previously stated, I have the adapters and the sensor mounts, but just waiting on more SloweSpeed brackets to be made.

In the future I will do things differently if there's any product ventures.

There still are some pending orders who have made deposits, but never responded to the various emails.
I will deal with those after SDAC.

If there are any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thanks!

Geez, didn't realize this thread hadn't been updated since that last post! Sorry about that.
Everyone that ordered had their items delivered. We also donated 2 packages to SDAC to help the club.

For anyone that was watching this thread and did not get in on the group buy, I do have a few extra. Stock is limited, and I have no current plans to make any more.
I have them combined as a package deal, the crank pulley mounted wheel adapter, the SloweSpeed trigger bracket, and the sensor mount, with all the fasteners.
Package price is $250 +$17 shipping & insurance.
To view information and order:
https://sites.google.com/view/wheming?pli=1

Remember this is for common-block only. I've heard it may also work on tall-deck 2.5, but can't confirm.

Also, if you would like only part of what is in the package, I could possibly split if you only needed a wheel adapter. I would have to send an invoice to you for any partial orders.
I have a few extra of the ZF Electronics Cherry sensors (like in the 2nd pic), that are not part of the package, but if you needed one, I could sell some.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230501/a1b5abce402c36ea97d7f676105e0ba5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230501/b8fe5c4ed4f26b89c0eb46e90a62ffde.jpg
