Anyone have a good Garrett T-I or T-II turbine shaft?

I have a couple that seem to have excessive piston ring seal clearance.

I've been told they be rebuilt or exchanged??

Anyone know who or the cost?

Thanks

Randy,
Never heard of rebuilt turbines, but aftermarket turbines are around $100-125 US on Ebay. Guy on Ebay "Ron's turbo service" is pretty knowledgeable, you could try contacting him.

I've seen more wear of shafts than turbine ring side clearance issues. I've been using the staggered piston ring on my rebuilds. Seems to work great!
LMK if you need any turbine shaft rebuild specs.

if it helps , I have a new/old center housing ...casting only , no shaft ..just the new center casting for building a new turbo..

Todd, I should have asked you first!!

Whats the side clearance of the ring to turbine shaft groove?

I asked on another forum and a guy answered about .0015"

He said he used to work in a Turbo shop and they repaired shafts.

My shaft doesn't appear worn or grooved at all just a bit of side clearance.

My measuring abilities aren't the best recently but my eye is still pretty good.

I did order a couple of staggered rings but haven't tried them on yet.

I'm still a little wobbly for things that require finesse.

Any experience with ebay shafts??

Thanks
Randy

Hey Randy,
I attached page from T3 rebuild specs. LMK if you need any other info. I have used aftermarket turbines from Turbo International. Quality seemed okay. I've seen some very good quality turbine shafts that came out of Japan. Not sure about what is currently on Ebay.
BTW this attachment suggests .002-.006 for side clearance and not .0015. It also lists whole gap clearance not using ring.
Here is some specs for you in attachment.

If your turbine shaft was all coked up, you might have lots of the same coking in the housing. There is a pinch point that when that becomes clogged, the turbo is a smoker. Sometimes tough to clean that area out, but it can be done if you have some high strength carb. cleaner (like Berryman's).

Wow Todd, excellent!!!

That's the info I need right there.

I'm guessing the original ring wears some increasing the clearance some??

Or not.

Thanks
