I didnt want to ask this there but I've had no success trying to become a member at D-cal soo illz askz zee questionz!:wave1:

im ordering a custom cal (chip) from a member of the boards. I found out a family friend of mine is able to socket the SMEC ill be using, but he and i dont know what chip needs to me removed and socketed.

would there happen to be a how to? what socket does he need to use and does he need to do anything to it to make it work?

Take a look at Graem Smith's document. It covers making a SMEC flashable, but it will show you where the chips fall, so to speak:

As for what chip to remove/socket: It's the only 28-pin ceramic DIP on the board. And, it should be the only chip with a sticker on it (usually with a 3-digit number, the last 3 digits of the P/N). Under the sticker is a UV-window. If you're looking down on the baord, it's in the lower left corner (on the SBEC, it's the lower right corner). Make a note of the pin 1 orientation before you take it out. Not all boards are marked to show pin 1...
