I went to speed world in Orlando to try out the spirit tonight. There was a few of the heavy hitters for the street car shoot out coming up next week there also so they sprayed the track. First run I spun through first bogged 2nd ,then hit the fuel cut, shifted in to 3rd & ran through the traps on the top of third. 15.63 /92.65 mph. 2nd run no spin in 1st,hit 2nd & started smelling clutch (It's a near new clutch 1 yr) but the track was sticky ,pulled good though. Shifted in to 4th before the traps & ran a slower mph. 15.53/92.02 .What I find strange is that even spinning on the 1st run the 60' was almost the same .2.417/2.418. All & all I'm very disappointed to the runs on a stock r/t with just a g-valve & a hks bov. using the horsepower calc's they say 211 wheel /249 crank. Dave.

That's not that bad. Get the launch down and it could be a high 14 second car.

I just assumed that the trap would be higher

I broke out the old g-tec pro & made some passes with it. The air is cool now and with the G-tec I had a 14.92 & a 14.97 99.5 & 99.9 spinning it's --- off so who knows:eyebrows:

I never hear anyone say anything good about traction at OSW. You need to go south to Bradenton or North to Valdosta. Those are the 2 best houses of hook. I've witnessed Bradenton first hand. Douglas Ga is also good but its only 1/8th mile. But I had my best 60' there 1.92 . Always like 1.99-2.02 at Gainesville.

A little better, that's a huge improvement:thumb: ! If you shave that much the next three times out, you'll be in the 12's:D

On a side note, I noticed your track has a lane named after Mickey Thompson, they finally convicted his slime ball partner/killer here in OC last week. 13 years after Mickey and his wife were gunned down in their driveway:eek: He got life without parole for orchestrating the murders, they never have found the two gunmen on bicycles:mad:

What a piece of shitt. :(

What kind of boost were you running? stock turbo or did you get the Holset on yet?

No I'm still on the stock snail. I have to sort out my traction problems before I make that jump. My first run shifting hard it ground 3rd (I think I hurt a syncro a few months back when I went for 5th & hit 3rd at about 80 or so. I caught it quickly but has been crunchy in to 1st & 3rd even with the car off) So I'm hoping a large spline 523 will hold up until I can find a 568 or send this on to be fixed. Next will be a set of drag radials but I'm not sure how well they will work. I'm still pursuing the holset swap & once I have the trim cal & other go fast parts I'll swap everything, get it dialed in with the stock turbo then swap the holset....Dave.

I have two A568's out of '91 vehicles if you need one that bad. One has 104K miles and the other had 80k miles. Let me know.

Hay DAVE,

At one time I owned 4 Spirit R/T's. I had one red 91, one white 91, one red 92, and one white 92. The white 92 I put on a K & N CAI and a 2.5" diameter exhaust with a Cat Co Conv and NO muffler. Everything else was stock and including the boost. I did run a set of NITTO Drag Radials that were P205/45r15 on the stock rims. My BEST times were as such:

.530
2.187
6.128
9.255 @ 79.40
no time for the 1000 foot
14.348 @ 97.83

R/T's are very hard to launch and getting a good 60 foot time is where it is at for a low ET. Our MPH's are usually up there, HP at work !!!

Good Luck
Chuck

PS--most A568 parts are NO LONGER available---I just had one rebuilt for my older son's Spirit and most of the large spline parts are gone....

Remember that for the R/T Turbo III cars, the case for the A-568 is different that the ones for the Turbo I High Torque 2.5Ls and the Turbo IV. The Turbo III A-568 have the machining for the crank sensor. I don't believe the non-16 valve have this provision.

Your timeslip is almost identical to the runs I have made with my Spirit R/T. With the stock turbo and stock intercooler bottleneck, you won't even pick up much with the wastegate unhooked. (My best is 14.56 @ 96.5 with a 2.3 60') With a turbo upgrade and front mount, more efficient intercooler, you should see huge gains like everyone else seems to report. Keep us posted!

I miss my Spirit R/T. I ran a 14.49 in the quarter here in Texas on a 83 degree day with low humidity. My R/T had a 2.5" cat back Dynomax exhaust and Magnecore wires. That was it!
I have an Iroc R/T now. Have not had a chance to take it to the track yet since I bought it with a cracked radiator and NO exhaust. Anyone know what it should run?

this will have less credibility since you already posted slips, but in my experience the G-tech is pretty damn accurate/consistant, EXCEPT it is always 3 mph high on the trap. :P

Nice car and runs.

because of the "true mph" measurement and not the drag strips' average over the last 10'

I've got a White Spirit, yes I do! I've got a White Spirit how 'bout you?:thumb:
had the g-tech on at the track also & it said that I trapped higher than I did.

You might get 1-1.5 mph more if the timing traps were at the end. It does not make up for the difference in a g-tech in most cases.

yeh if you gained 3 mph in the last 10', congratulations you just trapped 300 mph.

all im saying is that that 3mph error is very consistant, so intstead of declaring it a piece of crap, just take it into account and work around it.

Now I have a question,With any amount of wheel spin will it still run the same MPH than with good traction? I've read that it (mph) stays consistent.

ive made just 2 runs in my spirit r/t...
best was 14.9@97.. 2.8 60' and missed a gear TWICE on that run :(
other slower run was similar, but a 15.1 same missed shifts and 60' :(

Are your shifter bushings bad? I had to adjust my shifter handle to where it was comfortable to me when I got my car. The stick was almost straight up & I always missed the gear I was looking for. Where the cable attaches on the shifter is a bolt, loosen the bolt & set the handle where it feels comfortable for the 3-4 shift.

bushings are all new, on shifter, and tranny connection, I'm going to check into that adjustment. I am also running a short shifter too.

it was my first time at the track with a manual car, all other times was in my gtp.. auto. so, fast shifting is still new to me :)
