Best tool for cutting out floors?

Besides the spot weld drill and a standard cutoff wheel, do you guys suggest anything else for cutting out rotted floor pans? Plasma cutter is not in my budget, but I will be upgrading my air compressor in the near future, so all air tools will be considered.

Spot weld cutters are great if you are trying to save the floor but don't waste your time with them removing rusty floors. I use a grinding wheel and grind the top of the spot weld then pop the metal loose with a large screw driver. This is much faster and leaves all of the original metal on the frame rails for welding in the new floors.

4.5 to 5 inch angle grinder with cut off disks.. wear eye protection.

Harbor Freight sells an air saw; it's a short blade reciprocating hack saw. It's precise and controllable so best for your short runs, corners and fine cuts. Blades go too fast for the long runs. That's the the air chisel or Sawzall/reciprocating saw or electric shears.

I have been eyeing one of those reciprocating saws too.

Just don't. I have burned through at least 6 of them in the past four years with an average operating time of 10-15 min.

Harbor Freight does make some suitable tools, that air saw isn't one of them.

I have not used mine a whole lot. Just occasional short tricky tight cuts. I saw that they also sell an electric one but it had a much slower rate of reciprocation. High rate with a fine blade seems to reduce snag and jump, makes it easier to handle.


On air compressors, I had two of those "oil less" pumps fail, second was bolt on freebie. They are too loud anyway. Went back and fixed/replaced the sheaves on my old piston pump.

Seem to break at the end of the piston, never really took one apart to find out. I gave up after the last one and have a plasma cutter or use the sawzall.

Yeah, I was actually looking at ones from Eastwood and TP Tools. I bought an air powered nibbler from Harbor Freight years ago, and it was missing one of the planetary gears right out of the package.

I hate air tools but until dewalt or milwaukee can make a battery powered one of those, that is about as good as it gets. Drop the coin and get the snap-on/bahco blades.

I do love IR stuff, and that seems like a fair price. I actually get a student discount on Snap-On tools. I'll see what that price is, or I'll buy the one you posted.

Cut out the markup and buy the IR saw from the best price found. Matco did sell the same saw with a molded case and their name on it for like 3x the price..

The exact same saw can be had from most of the air tool companies
I have the same thing in a campbell hausfeld - got it for 50 bucks at home depot (half off sale)

for cutting stuff up not much is better - or cleaner , both in the work done and mess in shop
