Anyone know where to source those? I just had a head rebuilt and they had to cut the coolant fitting out.

I remember getting one online or home Depot. I think it's like 3/4 pipe thread or something? I have a few heads in the pile. Might be able to pull one out for ya.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate it. The machine shop had a hell of a time getting this one out, due to dissimilar metal corrosion.

Yup, 3/4" NPT. If you need to find tap to repair threads, you can usually find good used sharp taps cheap on EBay. Very common size. Many times the cylinder heads aren't tapped very deep, and could use a little tweaking when rebuilding.

He recommended using a stronger thread locker, since the lands are so shallow.

Would there be any benefit to using an aluminum fitting instead?

I found one in my shed. It's brass if you want it.

A couple years ago when I came across this issue and needed one asap. Mcmaster carr had one the next day delivered their part number 5346K91 for a two pack.

I'm using an AN fitting from Jegs which is 3/4" NPT to -10AN. I then use a 90* AN fitting off of that and have a -10AN to 5/8" hose barb adapter at the end for the firewall.

Went that route, picked up some fittings from Jegs. Cheaper than I thought.
