A local radio station has an hour at noon on Friday's called "Bad Hair Friday". An hour of hair bands from the '80s. I'm not usually awake at noon, but today I was out running errands in the Z and cranking up the tunes. It got me to thinking about the things we did to our cars back then.

The first thing I thought about was the Oakley Thermonuclear Protection stickers on the windsheild.

Hmm.. Oh, chrome directional rims!

What else?

Lowrider pickups with ground effects, a huge stereo, and some type of saying on the top of the windshield were popular where I lived. I remember pink double blade windshield wipers and monochromatic paint.

I used to have a set of those on my '80 capri, at the time i thought they looked good.
i was at work one day when a storm rolled in, and a gust of wind ripped them off the car and sent them 1/4 mile across the parking lot:eek: needless to say, i didn't put them back on :D
how about the nose scraper look with the rear tires sticking out of the fenderwells?

I was just reading my old dealer brochures the other day-

Taken from the 1986 and 1988 Daytona brochures:

Anybody still got a pull-out stereo? I remember how cool I thought I was carrying my entire Alpine tape deck with me everywhere.

What about the fake cel phone antennae on the rear window.

I listen to hair nation on sirius radio all of the time. they only play the big hair bands from the 80s.

I also have louvers on my shelby charger.

my dad had an 84 Laser. Black with an offset red stripe and louvers. I hope to replicate that car someday, only with T2. But I really don't know any 80s, I was born in 88.

Pop Up Headlights were HUGE in the 80s. Probe, Lebaron, RX7, Celica/Corolla, Vette, just to name a few.

I used to have that when I had Dish Network. I have Direct TV now and they have XM radio. XM's hair band channel isn't near as good as Sirius's. I just wish they would let me put satellite radio in my state vehicle. :(

I find it interesting that the 88 and 86 both use the same picture with the gloves and 80's sunglasses in almost exactly the same spot! Not sure what you guys mean about the fake cell phone antenna...I was under the impression that these vehicles actually had car phones at one point. Actually when I bought my daytona, it still had about a foot long black pole screwed into the console from the original car phone, along with the antenna on the hatchback window. I took everything out, wiring and all accept the antenna, because it looked cool :)
