dodge omni axles in shelby charger

I am workin on putting 1990 dodge Omni auto axles in my 85 Shelby charger with the 525 trans. I can not get the Omni axles to slide in and seat all the way like the charger ones. I counted the splines between the 2 and I counted 25 on the Omni and 23 on the charger. This is on the tranny end that I counted each but the Omni ones seem to fit in the hub side with no problem at all. Can anybody please lend me some helpful knowledge. I am trying to eliminate the u-joint and extension shaft on the passenger side.

I also wanted to say that I measured both sides that slide into the tranny on the Omni and charger axles. I only did this on the driver side one and the Omni measures about 2 3/4inches while the charger one measures 2.25 inches. am I way off base with anything?

Believe the axles you are looking for are up to 1989 auto omni. 90 changed I thought.

ok. Thanks. I will call oreileys where I bought the axles and see if they pull up a different part number for the 89 axles. hopefully in the mean time some other people chime in

Hmm oreilly's show the same number for 89 and 90. I must be wrong. I ordered two axles from Oreilly for an 89 and they fit my 525 diff.

For L body

A525 needs 90 or older Omni manual axles or any 87 or older auto axles.
A520, A555, A523, A568 needs 88-90 Auto axles.

Thanks a bunch tryingbe. I appreciate the useful info. I musta got confused on the swaps of the axles but that does sound accurate. I went to oreillys and hopefully got the correct axles this time. The dude at the counter was very helpful in figuring out the correct ones for me. I should have the new ones by Wednesday and be back in business and moving forward with any luck. Its great to have a buncha knowledgeable guys here in time of need
