Ever heard of Optic Armor Performance Windows?

They are in Linn Creek MO....saw their ad in the last Grassroots Motorsports Magazine.
They say the Polycarbonate windshields are 50% lighter than glass but 250 times stronger.

They also make custom windshields!!!

I am contacting them to see if they will make them for the GTP and what the cost would be if they can.

Brilliant, keep us in the loop!

Here is the loop
#1 we send them a windshield sample, or a real car showing up. Anyone near Linn Creek, MO?
#2 they give us a accurate quote.
#3 the approx cost is someone pays the tooling chart of about $3500...or
#4 we get at least ten people to buy one and we all get one for $350 each and no tooling charge.

NOTE: I asked about the round vs square corner. He suggested they make them square, as if anyone wants a round corner one, they can be cut.

I AM into buying one, can I get 9 more????
Anyone have a spare windshield we can get to them??????

I have a couple spare round ones, along with the only square style I found during my digging.

I should add, the few places I contacted when I first got things moving over here was looking like $1500 each, with a min buy in of 50 pieces. These would be typical laminated glass with a DOT cert attached.
So, this sounds like an excellent option.

Is the square and round windshields the same, other than the corners???

DaveSkrab

They are close enough for me to think so. I can take a couple pictures if you are interested.

Lay one on top of each other???

Johnny

Also...can you measure the thickness????

DaveSkrab

Yes, I have them stored that way at the moment. Have the square one sandwiched between the two round ones. I'll take a picture, and measure the thickness as closely as I can.

About 7/32"

I was told we could get 3/16 or 1/4 inch...but most use the 3/16"

Johnny, did the guy in Cowpens, SC that has a Consulier ever get ahold of you? He called me the other day to see if I had your number ( I had put him in contact with you once before I think, but he lost the number). I gave him the number off your website. He was needing a windshield for his, I'm kinda guessing that's partly why this thread is now here lol but wanted to make sure. I'm pretty positive he would pay 350 for one no problem.

Yes I talked to him AND THAT WHY I REVISITED HAVING THEM MADE.

No interest I guess.

I'd probably chip in on 1. I've got a spare, but gotta build the second car still.

According to George Lawson, they started cutting the square windshields to make the round ones.

Looks plausible the square style could have been trimmed to fit. However, the square glass is thicker measuring approx .265", and the round style is .205" making for a noticeable difference in weight. Additionally, they have different DOT markings, square glass reads "ASI M 60" while the round style reads "ASI M 50".
Also, the polycarbonate piece I got from Mike Wah matches the round style, and measures .250" in thickness, and weighs less than half of the thinner round style glass.

I also have one, do not "need" to do this buy, as I have it for a spare. ALSO I have Clearplex on my glass one so hopefully it lasts.
BUT this seems like the right thing to do....group buy continue!!!

I was told that at least during design of the series 2 they took series 1 windshields and cut the corners. My point was just that otherwise the shape etc was the same. I have no idea regarding thickness etc.

I don't need one per se either, but mine has a pock mark just under the wiper and it seems that I've had at least 2 decent impacts while driving on the hwy ( ones that left white dust on the windshield after the hit )
Having one would make me worry less about driving it, and if it helps us get closer to having another one on the road, I'll do what I can.

Yea screw it, I'm in for one if you guys do this. I got spares but they are probably delaminating as I type. Plus lighter and stronger.

I should probably get in on this as well, what kind of timeframe are we looking at Johnny? Also, when would you need funds?

WE need a windshield sample, you have one (square)...can we use it as a sample? Can you send it to the mfg ?
I'll talk to them on time frames......

How is the durability when using wipers?

Johnny
11-19-2016, 01:15 AM
I have installed Clearplex on my glass one, and would also put it on this polyc one.
You need to teat both the same. Keep it clean, don't turn the wipers on untill it's clean.
use something they supply that is like rainx to keep it easy to clean

Johnny,
Might as well get one also.
I have an extra original glass round corner from Dan when Mosler was in business.
I also have an extra Polycarbonate from Mike Wah.
If I remember correctly he picked up so many polycarbonate windshields on a trip to Mosler the pile was huge.…about 20 I think.
He probably has them now unless they got sold with the Blue car and came back to Fla.…Andy?
