View Full Version : mystery engine 2.5
i was told its from an 89 daytona, had a 555 trans with it but the internals seem to have been tampered with, it was run at some point but looks like they started to replace the head and oil pan gasket and then gave up.
can anyone id what rods and pistons these are obviously they cant be stock to this engine since its a common block, they have press in pins

Wouldn't a 5 speed 89 Daytona be an intercooled 2.2? Yes, I can see the pistons are 2.5's but?

Is this a 2.5 long rod motor? That's my only guess.

Is there an oil drain back in the block? Looks like a TBI motor.
yea it had all the turbo motor bits, oil drain back tube, oil distribution block and coolant fittings, had balance shafts and its a commonblock (there is no fuel pump blockoff plate) unless they drilled a tbi block
this is the crank and you can see the oil drainback and whats left of the coolant feed line

pistons are 4387519
rods are 4323218lw
so it looks like it just has junk internals, there not even turbo pistons just tbi like mopar tech said

Can you show a picture of the front of the head under the t-stat? It looks like it has the TBI heater hose fitting, not the unique turbo fitting.
yea that was a tbi head on the engine had a brand new felpro under it, this turbo head was included with the engine but unfortunately its cracked in a bad spot

All this brings back memories (same back story you've got, same rods I found):

The extrapolated full Vin number of the block (1B3XG24K9KG271958) indicates that it was originally a 1989 Dodge Daytona 2.5L TBI if you were wondering.

Curious if the block is cross drilled??
Good detective work bamman.
Probably a reman Engine.
Thanks
Randy

thanks that explains alot no wonder the pistons looked like they where in there awhile ( and not broken yet), block is not crossdrilled, must have been a turbo conversion that was abandoned
