Resurrecting one of my R/T's and since it's been a few years that I've been "away" from these cars.... I vaguely remember a discussion about what oil pump to use? I think I remember some people having issues with the tried and true Mellings.... I have a new TSB pump that I got years ago, but it's a bit rusty and needs a complete teardown, etc... I'd rather avoid that if possible. Any new developments/suggestions?

stamped aluminum oil pump, if you can find one.

I prefer the cast aluminum Mopar ones, but I can't say I've ever had a problem with the cast iron Mellings on a TIII or otherwise. Good to see you back Steve.

The chrysler aluminum housing oil pumps are still out there. Look on ebay and be ready to buy one when there listed.

Hey Steve,
IMO, the TIII oil pump castings were the cleanest castings. SOP 4667379. Steve, what I have found is almost any NOS Chrysler oil pumps still unused today will almost certainly require a teardown to check for rust, aluminum corrosion, etc. I personally like the Chrysler pumps better, but have had no failures with the Melling pumps. Some are high pressure, some are high volume, some are both. Almost need to take out spring to check.

I don't know anything about T-III's but remember someone (5 digits??) mentioning using an 8 V int shaft sprocket.

The larger diameter slowed the pump down enough to make it live as I remember.

Thanks
Randy.

Good to see you back Steve. Like has been said, use the aluminum body pump, port match everything. I have found those pumps in random engine cores..no rhyme or reason what engine got them?? I also check various springs with a valve spring checker, and use the stiffest one.

9.8 and no nitrous! ;-) I might go with the Mellings as time is of the essence here. Just tore into it the other day and it's cold outside here in October. No way am I putting my "Shadow Millenium Project" outside...lol

It's nice seeing you're still here, too.... and Todd ;-) Thanks for the suggestions, but like I said in my other reply: time is of the essence and if trying to track down an OEM mopar unit takes time, I might just go with the Melllings. But... I need to double check the spring even from over the counter?
