There was a clunking noise coming from the front of the car. I found a small crack in the k-frame but didn't explain the noise. I took the k-frame out and it opened up ... it's not a small crack. The mount was nearly out. The clunking was the K-frame flapping up and down.

This car is from Florida! There is no other rust on the bottom of this car.

Those older K-members were not that strong to begin with. I've seen a lot of them break. Unless your car is an L-body or Minivan, try and find at least an '87-'88 Daytona Shelby Z K-member, or do one better and go with '89-up with the better control arms.

I have a 88,89 and a 91 k-frame here. I haven't decided which one to use yet. I've heard the k-frames with the cast control arms move the tires forward 0.75" on the older cars.

Yes, they do. If you don't have the clearance in your fender, I'd go with the 89 as it has the double-hinge design but does not change the alignment geometry. If you have the clearance, then the extra castor from the 91 is nice, but you should technically swap the knuckles as well. That said, lots of people use the cast arms on the old knuckles.
