I might be able to pick up an srt4 for a good price but it needs a clutch and third gear grinds. Is 3rd gear grinding a common issue and how much do you think it will cost to fix? I looked up used transmissions and they are pretty pricey. Also, what a good clutch for it and how much do they run?

Third gear is a common issue. The synchros are available but pricey. I wanna say in the $4-600 range last I looked.

I might be able to get the car for $2k and it looks to be in good shape otherwise so I am thinking of buying it.

Grrrrr... accidentally edited my post and can't quite remember what was in it.

Essentially it was: buy it and stick a later-model Neon transmission in it, upgrade the clutch, add an LSD, and say goodbye to 3rd gear issues. Hell, you could probably sell the T850 for parts afterwards.

OK, I know you got a smoking deal on the car but I cant see why you bought it
unless you plan on making some $

I just plan on fixing it and selling it. Although it is kind of fun to drive. The last one I had was the reason I bought a Ford truck instead of a dodge. Now that Chrysler is really fiat I probably won't ever by a new Chrysler/jeep/ dodge/fiat.
