The engine side? I should still have the one from my '84 GLH...

I have a bulkhead adapter I built about 12 years ago. It has a female 50-pin on one side and a male 40-pin on the other; about 8" long. I built it to adapt an '88 Horizon TBI harness that I converted to Turbo II to work in my '86 GLH Turbo.

I'm not sure I will ever use it again...and I may be going to Sturgis again for more machine work.

yes, the engine side with the male pins. i decided to make an adapter to go from the smec harness to the lm dash harness. that way i don't need to cut up any harnesses i have. already have the 50 pin side.

If you make your own adapter, just be sure to make it as short as possible (shorter than mine), to not interfere with the clutch cable.

$30? I can drop it off on my way to Sturgis. I'd love to see your project vehicles too!

The 40-pin male side of adapter is pinned out for an '86 GLH Turbo and should work for a Shelby Charger original dash harness. The 50-pin female side is pinned for an '88 Horizon TBI under hood harness. If you use a Caravan/Voyager harness, it should physically plug right in but some reconfiguring of the pinout may be necessary (easy).

i'll take it. i'll pm you on details.

I also have a modified '89 Caravan TI/SMEC harness that I converted for use in my '86 GLH Turbo. It is somewhere out in my garage.. I chopped the 50-pin plug off of that and spliced on a 40-pin male bulkhead connector. If you are interested in that I can bring it. I ran the car on this with a 2.5L TI intercooler setup for years delivering pizza.

I have sold my '86 GLH Turbo to my older brother and it now runs '85 LM/PM electronics, so I doubt I will ever need that again either. Just a thought.

price on that? pic? what did you all do to the smec harness, e.g. extra wires, headlights, wire length, etc if anything?

Aside from the 40-pin male bulkhead connector swap, I had to splice on the L-body windshield wiper motor connector, mount the various relays (removed them from the long bar Caravan mount), swap the headlight connectors, strategically hide some of the bulk of the Caravan harness, and some other minor things like shorten the TPS/AIS connectors. I believe the turn signal connectors actually worked, but I was left with extra redundant turn signal connectors which I didn't use since the Omni used corner signals and the Caravan used front and side signals. The Caravan harness was also from an auto trans equipped model, so I swapped the reverse light connector from 3-wire to 2-wire for the Omni's A525.

I did also install new battery cables and relocated the battery to the passenger side inner fender just above where the charcoal canister was, so they are a bit longish. I ran the engine on a stock 2.5L TI SMEC so I never bothered to add the charge temp sensor wiring. About the only other thing I added was a tap on the O2 wiring for a narrow band O2 gauge and also a tap on the MAP sensor for an adjustable zener diode to eliminate the boost cut.

I'll dig it out of my wiring harness bin. I was hoping to get like $100 for it, but I'd rather you see it for yourself first to see if it would work for you.

Here is a picture of my old Omni GLH Turbo in it's former 2.5L TI NPR intercooled glory. I'm posting this to give you an idea of the battery relocation and the relay mounting on the driver side with the modified Caravan SMEC harness. The car is now owned by my older brother and has since been retroverted back to '85 electronics and a new log TI. (kinda weird being it's actually an '86 model). The battery is actually a stock Mopar replacement battery for the Omni GLH Turbo.

Sounds like you made a custom Super 60 harness with the 40 pin!!!

Good deal at $100.00.

Thanks
Randy

Funny you say that. Way back in '01-'02 I made a custom under hood harness for a member (mcaracter)? for his '88 Horizon. He sent me the Horizon's original TBI/SMEC harness and I modified it with parts from an '88 Shelby Z harness. In the end, it was a pretty darn good approximation of a real Super 60 harness (real L-body fitment). It was a lot of work but it fit like a glove. I actually made the bulkhead adapter posted above in order to test that harness in my '86 GLH Turbo. The '86 L-body had 40-pin male, while the '88 L-body had 50-pin male.

Super 60 harness is also 40 pin is what got me thinking.

TBI harness to turbo!! Never even thought of it and have made some in the past, cut and shrink, repeat.

If I live long enough I have one more to do and have a TBI harness.

Did you make any postings on it??:eyebrows:

Thanks
Randy

I believe I did, but those posts are probably archived from old turbo dodge.com posts. I called it my 'pseudo 60' harness because I was aiming at emulating the Super 60 harness. I can describe what I had to do if you like (I know you are quite knowledgeable about the subject yourself). Since the Mopar Super 60 harness was L-body SMEC, and the '88-89 L-body TBI harness were also SMEC, it seemed like a good starting place. As long as you're comfortable doing a lot of splices, in the end it can be a good fit. Actually much better than the Caravan harness idea! (I've done both). Keep in mind that this mod is all about keeping the body and bulkhead wiring stock and only modifying the fuel injection and ignition for the most part. An earlier ('84-'87) L-body would require further mods to the bulkhead to overcome the 40/50 pin debacle, hence why I built the adapter posted above. But splices, even though they are tedious and time consuming, shouldn't prevent somebody from building something really cool.

Nowadays, I'm trying to egg my older brother into letting me build a Turbo III for his Omni GLH Turbo. I have a '90 Omni TBI/SBEC harness and a few Spirit R/T TIII harnesses that would make for a nice fit! A day of soldering and shrink tubing splices wouldn't bother me a bit! He's really happy with the car as it is with the log TI I built, but has asked me what it would take to run with newer Camaros......I tell him.....well this is what I would do..
