The description states it has a 2.5 auto. I thought they all used TII five speed drivetrains.

It does look mean in black.

Its very dark green. I know that made one auto car...this must be it.
I tried to contact the owner through ebay and it got kicked back.

The one photo shows what looks like another Consulier in the garage.

Here are a few things I notice a 1992 with the last two of the VIN# 10….?
I know my car has #44 written on some body parts but has last two of VIN# 25
Bad news for Johnny trying to keep track that way.
Obviously VIN numbers and production dates don't have anything to do with each other.
I also notice it says air bag …does anyone else have an air bag.?
I was told by Sandy,a lady that owns three Consuliers that her friend called her to come look when all the cars went for sale .
She bought three and her friend bought one , they all live in Delray so that is probably the one.
Wonder why they wouldn't post any pics of the engine bay.?

It's the only auto car. I Know the guy that originally bought it and am in contact with this seller on the car. It is indeed a 2.5, the only one.

This one went for sale briefly several months ago, but was pulled down.
Then it is also the only non-intercooled car i believe.

Not that it was ever titled or had a vin, but the ntsb crash car was a log T1 auto car.

I sent a message asking if they had put the 2.5 and auto trans in. They replied that is the way it was when they bought it. Did the guy have any more info about the car?

Johnny

He bought it from the "sale" like we all did.
He is going to post more photos soon.

He didn't buy that one from the original sale, he bought it from a friend of mine a few months ago (who bought from the original sale). He has a 5 speed targa car that was bought from the original sale.

You are right. Hey, how does the targa look?

From the photos on the ebay ad, it looks like it's a 2.5 TI. I would think an intercooled 2.5 5spd would have sold by now, given the reputation these cars have for those in the know. Of course, since there is a Consulier with a TIII, maybe this one needed the same engine or a hybrid, for the asking price.

That's an interesting position. What do you think the Consuliers should be worth?

************** I fully understand that something is only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it *****************

Given the history, rarity and performance I'm of the opinion that the cars are still way under priced, even at 27k.
I seriously think everyone isn't considering the entire picture. Seems as though it's got "kit car" pricing :confused2:

Let's have a look at some super cars that are in the same performance category of the same era ( please feel free to add or subtract from the list )...because the Consulier is a supercar.
Lotus elise -- A little newer but the esprit isn't in the same performance category
Acura NSX -- A little newer but included because of that article.
Caterham 7 -- included because some have compared the consulier to it.
Lamborghini diablo -- a little quicker 0-60 times
Porsche 911 turbo ( 964 )
Ferrari 348
..there are some others, but this list should suffice for my point.
** category is slightly opinion based but performance is based on zeroto60times.com **

Now lets look at current market value range ( based on Ebay * cars with bids on them or buy now amount ):
Lotus elise -- $30-70K ( highest and lowest amounts not considered )
Acura NSX -- 37-90K ( highest and lowest amounts not considered ) low 10k, high 149K
Caterham 7 -- no listings..eh, oh well
Lamborghini diablo -- 210-340K
Porsche 911 turbo -- 20-114KFerrari 348 -- 30-125k
Consulier GTP -- 20-30K

Now lets look at exclusivity / rarity ( only cars of that era are used ) :
Acura NSX -- 18,000 built worldwide
Lamborghini diablo ~ 2,000 built worldwide
Porsche 911 turbo ( 964 1991-1994 ) -- 62,172 built worldwide
Ferrari 348 -- 7,125 built worldwide
Consulier GTP ( includes all versions ) 84 built

***This is where things get interesting***
If we try to find something that's limited to roughly the same quantities that the Consulier was produced we have to step back to the early 1960's Ferrari's OR the Porsche 964 turbo S ( 81 built ) but the 964 S was a subset of a larger production base so I'm not sure I'd even consider it.

...all that being said, keep in mind that I do not have an agenda for increasing the value of these...I don't plan on selling...ever.

Just this man's opinion Player1, I've owned roughly 30TM's so I love them but when I looked at the GTP's to purchase(BEFORE the fire sale so they were still asking 80K for the nice ones) I just couldn't get past the looks. Flame away but IMO that's a face only a mother or GTP owner could love. But heck, I like Mini Vans and Omnis so what do I know

Looks are funny IF you look at the right angle but these were race cars. NSX even looks like them....

Oh, no worries, to each his own. I know they look odd compared to just about everything on the road, but to a certain extent so does a Countach ( super slanted front end, huge flanks and a kooky rear wheel opening )

To Johnny's point, Google image search "1990 IMSA GTP" and there you go.

The Consulier is retro-sheik and so fun to drive it can get illegal ;)

What...we would never drive over the forced speed limit would we? :)

Mine says I am going 160mph, when idling. So I am going faster then all of you guys.

Has anyone driven or in a countach? One of the most uncomfortable cars ever, so freaking hot inside. Makes a consulier look easy to get in /out of even when I was 14.

I was thinking around $22 - 24k for this one. But if I were an owner and wanted to sell one, as much as the market will bare.

It does have make offer button

I don't have enough at present to make a reasonable offer. But it would be fun intercooling, and beefing the drivetrain in it.

I have always thought these are cool cars. Is this for sure a Series II car? And how hard would the auto to manual swap be?

I called and talked to the owner, nice guy and the car is still for sale. Any thoughts from anyone? Im thinking about making an offer.

Is this the best/most active forum for these?

Thanks!

Johnny

This is the only active forum I know of on the Consulier...that people use.

What exactly are the differences? And does anyone know how bad the manual swap would be?

Yes it's a series 2 car, Differences are as follows:
-Forward wheel openings are better designed for air flow and brake cooling
-Rear hood is designed with a cowl instead of louvers
-Different dash/gauge layout
-Different center console
-Difference Door panels
-Rear shock tower mounts in different location
-Different resin used during manufacturing
-2 wipers, instead of a single
-Bumpers front and rear
-There is more, but that's what I've got off hand.

Swapping a manual is more cost than difficulty.
Needed:
-Bracket to mount slave cylinder for hydraulic clutch
-Custom shift cables
-Modified A555, consulier specific case. MIght be able to get one from Rossion still.
-I don't know if the auto/manual axles are interchangeable. (but that's a turbo dodge thing not Consulier specific)
-Clutch peddle
-Slave cylinder from a Datsun (parts houses still have them)
-Clutch master cylinder
-Shifter

But then a built auto with a manual valve body would be great!

That would be my plan. I would have loved to been the owner of this during the fire sale.
