View Full Version : 1st meaningful mods for an '05 SRT-4 are...

So what would be the "best bang for the buck" for a 1st mod?

My pal has an '05 SRT-4 & he's doing some drywall for me this weekend.

Today he told me that instead of cash he'd rather have a performance item so I want to get what would make the most difference for a 1st mod for him.

Thanks.

I'd probably vote a better waste gate actuator from Forge but an interested to see everyone's ideas too since I am an SRT-4 n00b! :thumb:

Stage 1?

Tame the wheelhop! Lower control arm bushings from es or prothane, and motor mount inserts will do the trick.

For performance, Wastegate acutator is an easy first. Problem with that and the stock computer is it's easy to trip an overboost code if you try to run too much boost, so no more than 15-16lbs.

I have yet to get a high-pressure wastegate actuator to work for me.

Go with stage 1

Motor mounts $25, Mopar BV replica $35, Bigger front Sway bar about $120. Those are cheap mods that are worth every penny.

I have to agree with the motor mounts and stage 1 (stage 1 is like $429, but I can hook you up with one for $300). Next exhaust and boost controller, if he does more dryway for you. the 05's are really finicky with the wasegate mods, and boost controller mods, so really try to do the s1 first.

The stage 1 is a great piece, it gives you 260FT/LB of torque and 240HP, It features the boost hold while shifting, but it takes some practice at least on 1 to 2 it's hard. It also gives you a nice exhaust snaps, and delivers a steady 15 Lbs of boost. But if I had another SRT-4 I would focus more on suspension, and stability control. Those things are not very stable at high speed, especially with the stock tires, they don't seem to have any lateral traction at all. The prove is in all the overturned SRT-4 out there.

Fixed.

If the car was an 03 I would consider stage 1 to be the definite first mod for the bigger injectors. But on an 05 stage 1 is nice but over $400 and I think the extra 10hp and 20ft/lbs is easy to make with an extra lb or 2 of boost. If there's concern about the driveabilty of a different wga (mine works amazing with the above setup) then get an exhaust instead.

I agree on the suspension mods. I gutted the stock struts and put in Koni adjustable inserts with the eibach pro-kit. Car sits low and rides nice and smooth on the highway, (no bouncy rough ride like the s3 coilovers) but still handles awesome on a road course. I also hadded the hotchkis front and rear sway bars, and redid ALL my bushings with urethane bushings. I can tell you my car really handles GREAT. The stock ride was just plain scary on the SRT-4 compared to all my shelby cars.

I dind't want to use the word scary for fear of retaliation, but that's exactly how an SRT with stock suspension feels. My charger feels like a F1 car at high speeds compared to a stock SRT. That's why I think that anybody who's serious about their SRT should upgrade the suspension before anything else.

Scary? I drove my SRT-4 on the roadcourse at SDAC-14 and was amazed at the confidence in inspired. Compared to my brother's '89 Daytona with Eibachs and Konis, my car felt way better. The only handling modification being 7" wide wheels vs. 6" stockers with stock tires.

Cindy, I'd like to take you up on the $300 stage 1 offer if still available.

CindyI'd like to also get these if you've got them:

Also, Don't these cars already make 240 or so to the wheels?

I suggest the hard intercooler piping along with stage 1.

Well my wife's '05 ACR handles great. I think a ton better than a non ACR SRT4. I rode in a 04 with coil overs and did not like it. We put ~215 to the ground IIRC. Dont know how much you want to put into his car but you can squeeze about 300hp with out any of the stages.

I'm looking into this very soon.
A few people have made 300 hp with this turbo
and supporting mods.

Actuator or exhaust for beginner bang for the buck! Done many of them... Of course it is bang for the buck here... If the actuator isn't workin' for ya than something is wrong. I have not had an issue with this install...

I've done a few mods to mine. I think the Stage 1 was probably the best for overall performance enhancement for bang for the buck.

Just to make the most out of it I went ahead and added a K&N Filter, NGK Plugs, Borla Cat back and Mopar BOV.

Also change out all the piping clamps to a heavier clamps to help stop boost leaks. Changed mine and what a difference it made for my SRT-4.

an aftermarket WGA would be the best bang for the buck.

Forward motion makes a really nice one that works great too.

Or a no cat DP.

Or an intercooler.

Or whatever haha, I felt a big gain in every mod I have done to this car/ :amen:

But seriously for the price the WGA set to 17-18lbs spike would make a world of difference on the SRT-4.
