Front quarter panels - Is the basic sheet metal shape the same for '90 - '93 Daytonas? (or for '89 too)

I know there are pop rivet holes in different places for the different side skirts and front fascia combinations, but is the basic shape the same? Also important, is the top bolt placement the same (the ones just under the edge of the hood)?

For example, will a quarter panel from a '93 bolt on to a '90?

Thanks,
Jeff

with exception of the holes punched in them for trim the 84-91 fenders are the same
the 92/3 fenders are different

the wheel well opening to front corner of the fender distance is shorter , slightly and the entire fender is different in that you can see differences in the radius of edges - mostly at the top rear corner where it meets the door and windshield

Doh. There's a '93 in the local parts-galore with perfect fenders.

Interesting that the wheel arch moved. Was it because of the cast versus stamped lower control arm caster change?

If it wasn't for the radius changes I would have considered giving it a try.

Thanks!

Yes, the front fenders had the wheel well moved due to the a-arms. I have no proof positive of this, but given my experience with that conversion on my earlier cars, this at least had to be one of the reasons for the change.

The holes used to mount the front fascia and the repeater/reflector lens is different. Also, as already pointed out, the body contours are just a tad different.

I can't confirm this, but I *think* the '91 fenders are different as well because that's when the control arms were changed.

yeah , the 91 fenders might also be different

there seems to be only a slight change in the arc of the front of the wheel opening , like it was streached slightly

standing between my 86 and 92 I could see the differences more easily

the issue with the wheel opening being moved forwards is that if you try to put an earlier nose on the car you will end up with a gap where the nose or air dam wraps around into the wheel well to be fastened to the fender lip as the lip is now further forwards than the edge of the nose that should be attached at that point

I think the only part of the wheel openinggg that got changed was at the front - I thought I could see it "wander" forwards slightly as I was looking at it , like the arc was not uniform in radius

Interesting. I am a tad concerned about the possible difference between '90 and '91.

Yes, I agree that if that is indeed the case, then the nose cone fascia "wrap around" would also have to be different lengths.

I have a friend with a fender from a '91. I guess I will find out in about a month or so..... will post results. I have a set of cast control arms, so I did plan on putting those in for the improved caster (or so I've been told).

You can make fenders work regardless of year, but as stated above they are different. I have 87 fenders on my 92 R/T.

I always thought the front were fenders, but this reminded me how a friend repaired rusted 1/4 ers on his Daytona.

He cut up some front fenders to repair the rusted 1/4 panels as the wheel opening seemed to match perfectly!!

Just an FYI for anyone contemplating repairing rusted Daytona rear wheel wells!!

Thanks
