Does anyone know if the later strut assemblies (strut and mount) are interchangeable with the early. Basically my 84 voyager uses a strut / mount that is only 84-85 and it appears most of the cars use different struts and mounts after 86. Just wondering if I was to purchase a newer strut and mount if it would work. I cannot see any strut tower differences. The mount themselves look different and the struts are a little difference in lengths but the difference in the mount might make up for that.

Thanks!

Justin

From what i could tell mixing and matching used stuff over the years, the main difference was the spring design. If you swap the entire assemblies it will work fine. I would definitely run the newer stuff on the assumption that parts availability for the newer stuff will be carried on longer.

Basically as far as I have been able to tell, the early strut mounts used 2 studs/nuts on the top versus 3 on the later.

The 84 voyager are the same 3 bolt as the later ones. The main reason am asking is the 84 -85 struts are still out there but are getting limited supply while the 86 and newer fit until the mid 90's. Thanks. Mabe one day ill pull one off my 89 and try it on the 84

Only the cars had the 2 bolt early strut mounts. They are kind of great because all you have to do is drill one more hole to swap in Neon strut assemblies, as i did on my 82 Lebaron.

well if neon struts bolt to the spindle assembly on some of the older cars chances are the vans didn't change either

Spindle width is the same on the vans as it is on the K-cars. Only the L-bodies got the different-width spindles.

I actually just modified some Raceland coilover struts from the back of a 2g neon to bolt to the FRONT of one of my vans.. we'll see how that turns out. I put a stock k/van upper strut mount on it and the bottom bolts up fine but just doesn't have camber adjustment built in.
