Since actual TIII lifters are getting hard to come by, and often have issues when you do find them even new, what's the other options? We have a rebuilder looking at some for a Spirit RT I'm working on, and I found mention of some successfully using a Mercedes V8 exhaust lifter on the other site. My thoughts were that if Lotus designed the head, seems like they'd have used a lifter they or a supplier already had in use, maybe in an Elise or Espirit. How critical is it to have the little foot on the bottom, could a lash cap be used on the valve stem instead?

FWD was supposed to be working on a new run of lifters. The thread in their section just kinda died out even though there was interest...

Here's what I got from the other site, pretty sure lengel is who is running these.

That's pretty cool. Hopefully Lengels will drop in with some wisdom.
I've been running them for years. They work.
I'd get the Mercedes disks also instead of modifying the lifter the way I did.

This is great. I got these lifters maybe 3-4 years ago....meant to post about them but never followed thru. My friend works at MB parts so got a good discount!

So we don't want the restrictor? Was kinda unclear about that on the other site. Wonder why the exhaust has a restrictor and the intake doesn't?

upon looking up those part numbers i'm finding that the 03-80's are exhaust and the 00-80 are intake?

I'm using BGA hl6312 lifters from rock auto. They're a drop in direct replacement, exactly like the original.

Interesting! 11mm Fiat Panda lifter. $8.95 a pop. Gonna order 1 a compare.
EDIT: These look to be the exact same as stock, including the little black plastic caps and sealing ring. I like the build of the mercedes lifter better but these can use stock lifter disc. Also, they ship from UK so its like 25$
Very interested in how this plays out...

The BGA HL6312 type, (actual genuine Fiat ones are installed in my R/T) are perfect. I tested the BGA's and they're working great as well.
I do have to disclaimer that they were hard to get. The test batch had a mix of the Mercedes lifters and Fiat lifters. The Fiats are 100% percent identical. And the only difference in the BGA's is the look of the machining. Overall I'd say there is no difference, but figured the Fiats were a touch nicer, but its probably just me being picky.

How can I order these from Rock Auto? I would need an application to look it up.
After buying at least 5 sets of these from FWDP I kinda wonder. I've shared hard to find part numbers before (like cheap Cometic gaskets for the Masi 16v). Jeez.

DO a part number search on RockAuto. They came right up but are showing $9.57 for me and only 7 remaining.

Awesome information to have! Thanks for sharing. I'll be putting a fresh set in my TIII that has had them replaced fairly recently yet they're noisy again.

Just got a set from Rock Auto. Delivered from Great Briton in 2 days. Received 12 that will drop in and 4 that need the Mercedes disk.

Are the sending different kinds or did you order 12 of one and 4 of the other?

I ordered 16. Got a split shipment of 12 and 4. Two different suppliers. Part number was the same for both types.

Hey guys,
I know this is an old thread but since it looks like a few of you have replaced these lifters .............
Does anyone have any hints as to getting the lifters into the rocker arms ? I have a head I am working on for a customer and he bought a set of lifters from FWDP but I am having a tough time getting them to go in to the rocker arm without hanging up on the teflon ring at the bottom of the lifter.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks,
Bill

I use a small C-clamp and a couple rags to cushion the rocker arm to prevent it from getting scratched. With the C-clamp, you can squeeze them in and not worry about the lifter disc doing a summersault in the lifter bore and ending up upside down.

Any verification on this, and why we would or would not want the restrictor in the lifter?
