Anyone ever find a solution to 4 door l body window tilt because of worn bushings? It looks like the upper one takes the most abuse.

I would also like to know of a solution for this. Usually I lubricate the window track in the spring and fall with a heavier lithium based grease. Seems to help it slide and reduce the amount of play.

I managed to find a NOS window guide plate on eBay for $10 so I snatched it up. I might send it to someone who does plastic and see if they can recreate the bushings.

I wrap zip ties fore and aft to recreate the bushing and eliminate play. It helps if your bushings are non existent. It does not solve the problem though, but it does help make rolling up the window a one hand operation.

I was looking at McMaster-Carr last night and thinking of some wear resistant nylon blocks and make my own. That will be later on after I do soooooo many other things.

3D printers use either ABS or PLA.
PLA is water soluble, and probably not a great solution.
When I have time, I'll look into printing some of these in ABS.
If someone wants to make the CAD drawing, it would speed up the process.

I made these up tonight. Modeled from NOS window regulator guides.
I'll bolt it into a car this week and see how it works. I can add meat where needed, if it looks like it will help.
As soon as I know they will work, I'll put them into production.

I'm just printing test pieces in ABS. It's cheap so I can make continuing changes without wasting expensive material. Th eoriginals apear to be ABS or something similar.

The final produt can be in any other printable material from Plastic to Gold.

But now we have Success!

The window glides up and down perfectly with only a little penetrating oil for lubricant. These are ABS prototypes. I'll have some done in nylon and see if they work as well.

ajakeski

1/8 inch rivets should do fine. I think the hole in the metal bracket is 9/64 or so.

The head of the rivet should be against the plastic.

Is there a reason why this post and control mechanism cannot be swapped to a 2 door L body? I mean, why are we talking about the 2 doors if we can use these and be done with it? Asking because I've never seen or messed with the regulators on a 4 door.

ajakeski
04-05-2016, 08:54 AM
I'm pretty sure that the Two doo regulator works the same way but all or the parts are different. The vertical part is oval shaped if I remember right. Looking at the photo, it looks like the small bushings are similar.

I have one somewhere...

minigts
04-05-2016, 09:04 AM
I guess I'm wondering how the tracks mount. Do they mount the same or can they be adapted? If so, I can't imagine the regulators can't be fit in place but again, maybe I'm over simplifying things. That or too hopeful. I think the rectangular design is better than the round design.

ajakeski
04-05-2016, 09:15 AM
The track bolts in the same, one bolt on top, one through the bottom of the door shell. I'm pretty sure the 2 door track is longer than the four door track and the angle is different.
