So the Nitrous kit on last years Mustang was kinda underwhelming because of the closed loop fuel system only allowed fuel enrichment by blowing the dry shot thru the hotwire MAF. It was good for 8MPH at the strip but it never really ran cleanly or consistently:(. So it seems like a fun idea to add the 'rental nitrous kit' to this years car I have reserved at BWI airport, a Grand Caravan. So the question is this, have any of you seen the fuel system on the 3.6 the Caravan has, is there a Schrader valve like the good ole days so we can tap into it for a much more tunable and consistant wet-shot set up? Any special fitings or pieces I can add to the kit I'm gonna ship to the hotel to make it more useable? I have a bottle heater but we've never needed top use it because it's always plenty warm at SDAC. I think we had a bad solenoid a couple years ago so I'll bring a couple extras and the WOT switch was kinda janky last year too. Realistically, I don't even open the shipping crate for the kit until a few days before SDAC but this year I want to be a little better prepared. I think Russ J had to supply a couple parts from his stash last year just to make the kit function.

I'll look outside in a few min. Work 3.6l caravan sitting there. (Coworkers)

No Schrader valve that I can see under the hood but it looks like it uses standard quick disconnect fuel fittings like a neon at the plastic!?!? Fuel rails. All the flex lines are the hard plastic lines.

Looks like you could use the female quick disconnect fuel fitting for the fuel filter back by the tank of a neon and then a piece of metal line with the step crimp for the quick disconnect and make a T to tap off of the fuel system at the rail.

I've always wondered what these 3.6s can do. I guess we'll be finding out in a couple of weeks. This will be glorious.

Uploading pics right now. The quick connect is a 5/16 and you can get the fuel pressure test adapter which has the -4 an/shrader in the middle. They also make actual nitrous adapters that will work inline of the fuel line which do the same thing

I like this idea:thumb: But then I still hve to get from this adapter to the fuel line for the kit, I've only used a Schrader screw on tap in in the past so that's what the fuel line to the solenoid has. I'm still a fitting short with this style...

Here is the one with the test port already on it.

So with the pressure 'tester' that's the only piece I need? It has the Schrader, the other end is kinda plugged into itself so I don't think I understand if that fits into the fuel rail or?

Yeah that one looks strange. ^^^^

Don't want to block flow of the fuel

Unless that small silver piece is 5/16 and they just loop it to keep the inside clean.

shackwrrr

Its just looped, one end is a female 5/16 quick connect that hooks to the rail, the other is s 5/16 male that hooks to the fuel line. The schrader is in the middle and is the standard -4 connection.

Ill check but I believe there is a junction at the firewall on the vans, will make it easier than digging down to the intake.

The junction by the intake is up front and easy to get. Take the cover off and it'd right there.

Get ordering Alan lol.

Ok I guess now I have to go to SDAC this year to see this. Besides someone has to keep the police away.

Only thing I'd be worried about is the electronic throttle causing an issue during shifts. Make sure you get the extra coverage :).

So I visited Zin's Nitrous Supply place and spent a few bucks on half dozen new jets, a new purge solenoid 'kit', a few bits and pieces and had the shop guy test the fuel/nitrous solenoids. They ended up rebuilding one that was 'swollen' and hanging up. Good to know a place that has all the parts in stock:thumb: The bottle I had was 2 months outta cert so it couldn't be filled:mad: Good news is, it was already full! Last years Mustang with the dry shot just didn't run cleanly at the drags which is why most of the runs were made without it. Wet shot owns dry shot:amen: Kit is on its way to the hotel with all the new parts:nx:

Well, seeing as how it takes aalllll day to get to PA from the west coast and we're spending the 4th with neighbors... We fly out 8am on the 5th, flight times and picking up the rental should have us to the host hotel around 8pm. Gonna miss auto X but I'd hate to beat up on so many fine TM's in a Caravan anyway:p

SDAC= Awesomness as always, Caravan, Meh, milktoast. It the job done but was bland as Poi and wasn't very fun with all the nanny controls that are engineered to kill the kinda hijynx I like to have.

EDIT: Yes Lasky, you did a fine job on your part of the install, the switch;)

i wonder if there was a way to bypass some of the nanny bs.

look at the beautiful solenoid/fogger/purge install. lol.

Look at the sticker! 70hp shot +20 from the sticker.

A grade A install. It was enjoyable to watch.
I'd also like to nominate this as the best use of the Stow-n-Go!

what kinda nanny controls Alan???

shackwrrr
07-12-2015, 10:26 AM
Traction control is never really off, could unplug a sensor to fix that. But unfortunately its going to determine engine torque based on converter slip and adjust timing/fuel to meet a threshold. That threshold is determined based off previous wheel slip events.

what kinda nanny controls Alan???

Any wheelspin at all at the launch and it jumped into 2nd no matter what I tried to do with the shifter or what mode it was in. So only 1 in 4 or so launches were smooth and spinless enough to hold 1st.

The shifts when the nitrous was flowing were like a half second of ignition cut or? Think of the Slowest shift you could imagine, now add a couple more tenths. Weird part is, without the nitrous, it didn't do the power-cut-shift.

Then when you WANTED wheelspin(parking lot hyjinx:lol:) only 1 time out of 4 would it allow the drive by wire to open the throttle plate. Could power brake a little but only to 2200 before it would drop to idle regardless of pedal postion. Reverse to drive slam worked one time, very next time I tried that little maneuver either the motor stalled of it shut itself off. IT was pissed that time, wouldn't restart for a couple of cranking cycles after that.

Meanwhile back at home, I've been driving Woody for the last couple days carting Jagger and his buddies around, I'll take the zero nanny edition any day! Heck, there was even a steady stream of underhood admirers at the new Cars and Coffee in Aliso Viejo:eyebrows:

The last 6spd T&C i drove was the slowest responding manual shift feature i have EVER used. The 3-4 upshift in particular was so delayed i kept thinking it had just let go.

Yep, you nailed that one Jerry, the shifting was probably the most annoying part during the passes.

Vigo, for whatever reason, the 70shot exacerbated the slow shifts.

I can tell you i thought it would put up a bit more than what it did.
It was a very poor effort on its part in the battle of the caravans
Of Nitrous Rental vs. MeanMini...55573

Does anyone have that on video?
And what was that? Alan red lighted??

Vigo

That's actually significantly slower than a correctly functioning stock 3.6/6spd caravan.

I *thought* there was a 16.50 non nitrous run but I couldn't find that slip! That was fastest pass without the juice, mean mini was looooong gone:thumb:

83mph seems pretty good for a 16 second minivan run. That should have been a middle 15...

Vigo
07-14-2015, 03:22 PM
I've driven more mid-16s 82-85 mph cars than i care to admit to, and a 3.6 minivan is WAY faster than that. I've driven tons of them. In fact, about a year ago i had to send over 20 of them from the auction i worked at to dealership for recall work, and i drove every one of them. Stock feels like it should trap 87-89 and run high 15s. 4th gear kinda kills em but up til ~70 they haul ---.

They actually dont really feel much slower than the 3.6/8spd Challengers that run 14.5@97. I've driven one of those. It's surprising there's such a big difference in the numbers.
