I'm helping a friend restore his Rampage but he is going to keep it carbureted. will the 782 head detonate with the 1984 electronics. He also has an 87 Charger with 2.2 carbureted. Is there any difference? Also, will the 87 wiring interchange without modification?

After a 2.5 was swapped into Matchbox I had to go with a much larger primary side jet to keep the egts from going nuclear on the way to Topeka in 2006. Thank goodness for that gauge, I stopped every 10 miles or so and got the correct jets on the last stop. At the track I changed it one last time. If I remember correctly I ended up with a 404 primary and 417 secondary. Those were the jets used on the TB 2.5...had to go down to 404/404 when a CB 2.5 was put in. Last year we finally replaced the stock roller cam with the Comp Magnum cam and now jets are 417/505! The head on the TB was what came on it and the same deal on the CB.

Angelo, your reply couldn't be more appropriate. That jet sizing for the comp cams magnum is going to be so helpful. Thanks very much.

Of course, the old adage of "your results may vary" comes into play here. Keep in mind that my carb is a mechanical secondary one AND that my car is set up to run with NO ignition timing advance at all...base timing only. I use a big digital EGT gauge so after a 1/4 mile pass I can see what the highest reading was...1390 being dead spot on. It is a great tuning tool too since on the highway at 70 mph I could see the EGT rise when too lean...either slowly if just a bit lean or quickly if really lean. My 10 second Camaro has a A/F mixture gauge that uses a series of lights and YES, it is in the so called safe zone, but it will be soon switched the a digital guage so I can get a real read after the finish line. On Matchbox, 1400 or 1380 will affect how consistent it is in the quarter compared to 1390.
