Want a new glass windshield for your Consulier?

I am talking with a company to reproduce them.
First quote is $100, but need to buy 60.
Thats not going to happen.

I asked to quote for 30, we shall see what they come up with.
Even if a few get one and some get tow (spare) we should get 30 sold..right?
I have a round corner glass one available to copy...thats step one.

I would hope the round corner one would fit the square corner cars.

Might be best to get square windshields and round them off for the rounded cars. I doubt it will work the other way around.

If $6000 is their majic number then 20 at $300 is likely doable.

I would have them make a sample first. Dont know what quality would be like

You might be right.
I hope the general shape is the same.

I have a couple of original ones from the rossion hunt. Including 1 square style. Want to take measurements and see what the actual difference between them is?

Johnny
03-11-2015, 08:03 PM
Or lay them on top of each other.
(maybe they will re-produce that way)

I am in for 1.

Wow 60 for 100 each.. 30 for 200 each? :p Even $200 as worst case is pretty dang good! This is great news.

Johnny
03-12-2015, 12:10 AM
I'd buy two.

player1up
03-12-2015, 11:03 AM
Count me for a square one...

Johnny, I'll call you "Mr. Impossible" from now on ;)

Rrider

I was thinking the same thing.. you would be happy to get that price on a 2014 camry windshield.

Johnny
03-12-2015, 12:09 PM
Its interesting. NOT sure yet how this will play out.
I NEED to put two (square and round corner) of them together and see IF its just the corners.
Volunteer?

DaveSkrab
03-12-2015, 12:39 PM
I have each of them available Johnny.

Johnny
03-12-2015, 01:37 PM
So you going to let them come together and let me know the results?

Thrillz
03-12-2015, 07:01 PM
I would be down for 2 or 3 square ones depending on price point

shackwrrr
03-12-2015, 08:13 PM
if they wanted 100 for 60, 200 for 30 or even 300 for 20, wouldn't it make more sense just to go with the 60 and make everyone buy 3? Its going to cost the same per person, why not go with the higher quantity?

Johnny
03-12-2015, 09:04 PM
You are right. But hoping they come back with 30 for $125ea, or something like that.

DaveSkrab
03-12-2015, 11:09 PM
Will make it happen this weekend Johnny! Will take some pictures and measurements.

Johnny

Johnny, Will this place entertain 2dr "L" body windshields?

Johnny
03-13-2015, 01:10 AM
I don't know, but are they really that hard to find?

DOHCRT
03-13-2015, 10:04 AM
0 balance everywhere i looked. i bought the last 2 from Rock auto and those were damaged in shipping.

Johnny
03-13-2015, 10:25 AM
Just the 2 door or the 4 door also?

168glhs1986
03-13-2015, 01:51 PM
2 door only

Johnny
03-13-2015, 05:02 PM
Okay, the 60 minimum is the lowest they will go at the place I talked to.
$100 each.
Could we get 30 people to by 2 each?
Not likely I'd get 30 people to do a buy.

Rrider
03-13-2015, 05:20 PM
I'd say make it 4 minimum for each person. $400 is still reasonable for 1 unobtanium windshield let alone with 3 extras. You would only need only 15 takers!

03-13-2015, 05:58 PM
Whats the name of the company Johnny. Can you vouch for their quality. I think we should get Warren to buy us $6000 worth of windshields! Ask him Johnny!

Thrillz
03-13-2015, 06:14 PM
I could do 4 at $100 each, I mean its only about $900 Canadian right now :P

I think not only to the Consuliers need new glass to be available, but like already pointed out the L-bodies for sure and I know G-bodies are also getting "low" from what I've read over the last few years.

As for the different styles of windshields for the Consulier, as already pointed out, you could possibly have square ones trimmed with templates by a glass place (this shouldn't be difficult), or maybe some sort of "adapter" to be able to use 1 style of windshield in either design. I don't have any clue if this is even possible, but it's a brainstorm idea.

Heck, for $100, I'll buy one if it makes the difference whether they get made, even though I do not own a Consulier nor do I ever intend to.

And then put in a good word about the L-body windshields. The Charger will need one eventually.

It stinks that they won't do it for a lower number run. I'd like to have a spare but don't really need three.

RoadWarrior222
03-16-2015, 12:55 PM
Put 'em back to back and grow tomatoes :D

Though it's my understanding that due to how these bodies expand a lot in the sun, you're only really a sudden cold rainshower away from getting one cracked just sitting there.

I'm surprised the midwesterners aren't remembering the baseball sized hail of the last few years and thinking "Yah, maybe I'd need 3... or 4... heck I'll take two spots."

Rrider
03-16-2015, 01:11 PM
60 stinks!? I was thinking the opposite.. Like how the heck do they make a profit tooling up for a new windshield order at anything less than 500 pieces.

RoadWarrior222

My first thought, 3D printed "corner" that sockets into a round edge, with a groove, and is as thick as the glass on the square edge, to seal normally.

So I'm not as crazy as some people say! ;) :thumb:

I am checking with other windshield mfg to see what they say about quantities and prices.

Johnny
03-17-2015, 03:40 PM
First place that got back to me...$1000 to $2000 tooling
and then around $500 each

ouch!

Another quote:

20 pieces = $675 each + $1400 tooling + $300 crate + $425 shipping = $15355.00 USD shipped to your door.

I'm out.

polopharm
03-18-2015, 07:09 PM
So we are at approximately 700 per unit? Still probobly worth doing, where else are you going to get one? My RV front windshields are 1500 each.

Rrider

These other quotes point out how cheap that original quote is. Like a 100,000 watt neon arrow.

Johnny
03-19-2015, 12:34 PM
NOT looking good here.

BUT in the mean time......add this to your windshield NOW. I did and it has protected mine so far.

USED OEM Masi TC windshields with the Pentatrident in it go for over $1000 each!! I saw 2 of them on eBay recently.

Johnny
03-19-2015, 02:37 PM
To get the 60 consular windshields it is $6000
Everyone that has a GTP needs a spare.
If we get 10 people to pony up that is $600 each, and they can have 2 each.
We will keep the spares and charge $600 each and split the profits among those 10 each time one is sold.
Make take a while....but then after while those that invested first get paid back.

Maybe Mr. Warren will want a few spares for his cars?

Johnny

Could be or his son.

03-19-2015, 04:23 PM
If we do it Johnny, I'm still in for 4 if they can come with the square corners of the earlier ones.

I am in.
But also need early style.

Johnny
03-19-2015, 10:42 PM
I'm still in for 4 if they can come with the square corners of the earlier ones.

Still need to know if they are the same except the corners. When we find that out we can see if one "mold" would do either one.

DaveSkrab

Sorry for the delay in comparing them. I remember loading them for transport and they laid very nicely together. But, still need to compare more closely.

Johnny
03-20-2015, 12:55 AM
When you get time...Im not in a hurry.

Johnny
03-22-2015, 12:22 PM
Checking around it seems the first quote was the best. This last one is....
for one $3000
for ten $12,675

Johnny
03-23-2015, 10:33 AM
Heard from another company this morning......

We can make the glass for you.
If you order 20 or more pieces, the price is $450 each.
If you order 10 to 15 pieces, it would be $500 each.
Minimum order is 5 pieces and the price would be $600 each.

Johnny
03-30-2015, 10:51 AM
The last quote I was waiting for came in this morning.
Even higher, $32k for 12.

So the best quote was the 60 at $6000...which seemed high but now unbelievable compared to all the others.

polopharm
03-30-2015, 07:24 PM
I am in for 5

Johnny
03-30-2015, 09:46 PM
At the $100 each price right?

polopharm
03-30-2015, 10:55 PM
Correct. Aren't there a few more people here that will pony up?
Lets try and make it happen!!

Johnny
03-30-2015, 11:58 PM
Not a lot of interest it seems. If there is....speak up!

DaveSkrab
03-31-2015, 08:39 AM
I would pony up for 2.

168glhs1986
03-31-2015, 09:00 AM
Even if everyone would pitch in $500, we would need 12 people to make this happen. I just don't see it. Also, I'm not sure on the quality of windshield they are producing.

I'll more than likely stick to my Lexan windshields but what is the companies name?

GTP#44
03-31-2015, 12:08 PM
I have a spare windshield I bought from Dan for 500 way before I got access to the containers.
I also have a Lexan windshield....thanks to Mike's great eyes ,way to spot a gem in a pile of poop.
If it comes down to only needing two more to make it happen I'm in.

Rrider
03-31-2015, 12:33 PM
I also purchased at $500 each, two of them. And keep in mind the ones we got are no spring chickens.

$500 for one, get four free. If 12 people can look at it like that, well there you go. Less would obviously be nicer, but if there are not enough people willing to buy in only other possibility is making the packs larger.

For what we paid for THREE you all would be getting FIFTEEN of them.
