My 2004 SRT4 developed an ignition miss. Tracked it down to the MSD coil arching against the valvecover. Put a stock coil back on. Problem solved!

I seem to remember having this problem once with a 'regular' neon.

I honestly thought I read that the MSD coil packs were just factory ones painted red. I heard the part number on the underside was the factory MoPar number.

That could be a big reason why both could have had the same problem.

I still have the MSD coil. I will look for a MOPAR part number.

The MSD coils are inferior to the OE coils.

I also heard the msd's were actually chrysler rejects. But that may be pushing it. Still waiting to see if they're the same Chrysler part number...

I see no OEM part number on the MSD coil. I will not be using another one in the future. The engine seems to run better with a stock coil even well before the MSD coil went bad!

early on (8 years ago???) the aftermarket coils were known for their poor quality.

if you want an ignition upgrade, convert to coil on plug using 2.7l coils from an Intrepid, or Caliber coils (physically smaller than 2.7l coils)

Thanks for clearing that up! No pun intended

That is something to think about!

Its unlikely that the MSD are rejected Chrysler coils as they are molded in red plastic while the OE's are black.
