View Full Version : My GTP for sale

ForzaV12
01-09-2015, 01:16 PM
At the moment it is up for sale. I have a couple major additions arriving in the near future and I'm out of space again. Most are familiar with my car. Its a 1990 GTP LX. original paint, drivetrain stock and running well. Functioning AC, both window motors rebuilt, major interior upgrades(high end Recaros, custom Alcantara door panels, Porsche door pulls, ect), radio upgrade, custom stainless exhaust system with new cat(and test pipe), refreshed radiator, Racemark steering wheel, race mirrors, refreshed fuel tank, new fuel pump, all fuel lines, filters, etc. Full custom fabricated rear panel louver grills(to match factory rear panel grill). These greatly improve appearance and function of rear deck lid. I have all of the stock parts that will be included. Car runs very well and all systems function as they should except as noted.
The fuel sender, etc are new, yet gauge isn't working properly. I'm quite sure its the gauge. The car will occasionally overboost. I have a new wastegate solenoid installed, but may convert to grainger. On offer for 20. Thanks

Very reasonably priced Steve. If I hadn't bought the last 4 Bavarian machines currently in my warehouse now, I'd snatch this up so my brother and I could go head to head on the track.

And yeah what Alan said, can you define Major please :)

Back to the sale, I would contact Bring A Trailer and get some national exposure. And I'm sure Jalopnick would like to run an article on this as well.

Nice to see it listed on the forums here first thou.

GLWS - that's a lot of history and car for $20k

Thanks! yeah, BAT is a good site, although they don't let the owner submit vehicles(unless you pay 300.) I think its a smoking deal myself, especially considering the labor involved to redo interior.

Thanks Pat! I think I've given the next owner a good start. The Consulier has been very well received at the shows I've taken it to. Many folks that haven't been too concerned about the wide variety of cars in my driveway have gone crazy over the GTP. I have some other ideas for the GTP, but a special car will require my attention for a bit.

Steve are you taking trades?

I have 3 rusted Daytonas and a set of GLHS 1 mags.

Might throw in a jack to a 1983 1/2 blue/silver charger and a set of original NOS floor mats from a 1979 Horizon if that's what it takes.

LMK. Thanks

True, values are stupid crazy right now. Funny thing is, I sold a 68 Road Runner needing everything to a nice gent. He mentioned that he couldn't wait to get to work on the Mopar and would as soon as he got the "dumb old Porsche" out of his garage! Of course, I asked what it was. Two owner, 1968 in an incredibly rare Blood Orange factory color. Sent my guys out there the next day to pay his price and get it home. He also filled my truck bed with tons of old Porsche "junk". You never know where you'll find the next good deal!

Most don't think they've peaked for early original cars-a 65 went for 500k a few weeks ago. Even a nice hot rod 912/911 conversion sold for 100K. Apparently my 67 is only one of 212 with a factory sunroof-doesn't matter as I'll never sell it.

I was expecting that to be bad but this one made me laugh:

Consulier later became Mosler. No connection to the safe company, although they may have shared a styling department.

A lot of people still don't know about what air cooled porsche values have been doing so they would be perfect people to take proper capitalist advantage of. Or they know but it's small potatoes to them and they don't care. Either situation is a form of luxury i'm not availed of. :( I'm a little sad that i didn't get to drive one until they were already skyrocketing because now i want one but can't realistically justify one over all the other cool cars that aren't currently so inflated.

There are some funny comments to be sure. I just don't see it. Sure, its not the greatest example of automotive styling, but its hardly as bad as some claim. I think a bit of the lemming effect has taken place-you know, you are supposed to thinks its ugly because others have said so for so long. I guess the fact that it was built to a purpose and that the styling was functional not flamboyant has ruffled feathers over the years. Of course, I had to post a lengthy comment on BAT in its defense.
Next time you are in socal, we can take a ride in my hot rod 67 911 :)

The values are nice, but this one to me is priceless. It's a one owner, well 1 owner after thieves stole it off the lot back in 1970. Started life as a T model but Andial did a restoration and upgrade to slightly modded S specs. Has a 75 2.7 engine making around 200-225hp. I used to dust off Twin Turbo Supra's in it. It'll never leave the family as I was almost born in this car. Thankfully due to it's speed I wasn't :) I learned how to drive a stick at the age of 12 in it, and my 1st stoplight drag race was in it. I lost to a GLH Turbo :(

Welcome to the exclusive GTP ownership club and to the best forum on the internet.

As your aware of by now the GTP's heart is all Turbo Mopar and it's chassis is at home on the track and on the street. As far as I know I'm the only "post Mosler sale" purchaser to track the car.

The weak points are the brakes and the soft springs. I upgraded to A custom Wilwppd set for a measly $2200 for all 4 including pads and custom brackets.

What track cars are you selling?

Lastly I know Slowe Speed in Philly is quote a distance from you but I'm not sure where you love the other half of the year....assuming north east somewhere?

Anyway take your car to Brian to get track prepped and to verify a healthy running motor and your good to go for many more miles to come.

These engines if done properly are extremely reliable.

Congrats again and your going to love it.

Thanks for the info what are stock spring rates? And what did you change to?
I am familiar with wilwood brakes , will pm you about the custom brackets
no one else is doing track days or autocross or anything?

what happened to the factory race cars? Any survivors?

I am in Santa Barbara California in the summer , so philly is a bit tough!

(Have sold my e30 m3 race cars, now have a couple gen1 Toyota mr2 race cars that have been modified with the yamaha/Toyota 2zzge engines 8500 rpm stock redline, 6 speed tranny. And a resto mod volvo 1800 that is pretty wild )

Wow, west coast to east coast, love it !

I have 3 E30 M3's right now and I'm thinning the heard to 2 as I just brought a '77 911 on board. The hotrod MR2's sound like fun also, I see a mid engine love affair :)

For the spring rates, I'm running the heavier 16v head so I probably have another 100 ish lbs in the engine bay. I'm running 500 rear and 400 front but want to change to 600 rear and 500 front.

For the brakes, you have to swap the rear Fiero spindles to the same Daytona front style so now you have all four matching. Then call Todd at TCE performance, your probably already familiar with him if your in the track circles.

He built a custom set of brackets for the Daytona spindles. Brakes are absolutely amazing. 11.xx " all around, pads are top loading so can swap them in 1 minute or less :)

And not to mention they look incredible behind the open spoke RFp1's I'm currently running.

Have you shipped the car to Florida yet? If not ship it to Brian in Philly then fly up to Philly and drive to Florida.....just a thought.

Factory race cars are in the hands of Warren and his family. I think they built 3 with the 16v head like my car and think all are still around. Most of the race cars were 8v heads and unsure how many are still around.

Are you a member of the E30 M3 SIG group? A gentleman named Alan Simon who lives in Florida still owns Consulier Industries and used to race these cars back when they were new. I have his contact information, he would be your go to guy for sure.

Whats the story with this????

He and Warren owned Consulier Industries together. When the automotive side split off Alan remained CEO of Consulier Industries.

To this day he's still Warren's personal lawyer. I think he was also the driver in the $100,000 challenge.

Owned a Mosler MT900, took it to a shop for basic repair and the mechanic made a mistake, caught the car on fire and it was a total loss :(

He races E30 M3's, is semi retired and still living the dream in Florida.

Car is on way to Florida this week, it turns out it will be returning to within 20 miles of where it was built. I am gonna get it home, drive and see where I am.
I also plan to stop in at Rossion, I want to get a set of wheels for track tires, and I am a car parts hoarder so may end up with a bunch more stuff.

Going to drive it for a little while and see what I have before doing anything.

ps my first car was a 1965 911, in 1985 they were so cheap and no one wanted the early pre 1969 ones, wish it had it now (to sell!!)
I am a big fan of the mid engine car, and the mr2 is a cheap super fun car , with all Toyota parts cheap and readily available, as all parts are interchangeable with virtually all other toyotas.

I guess I am in for a different deal here, I have to hope to keep my windshield, body panels and who nows what else in one piece! At least the drive train parts are readily available.

Thanks for for the welcome and the insights so far, keep them coming.

In for volvo/bmw/toyota pics.

When I think of a comparable power/weight mid engine.. the 1st thing I think of is the 2nd gen MR2 turbo. A little lighter than the Toyota though.

Windshields.. I think four or five hundred would get you a lexan one made. No fenders or quarter panels to replace and the body is supposed to be pretty tough. If it does some how get damaged, boat repair methods should get it back in to shape. I would think.

Consulier Industries do or produce anything....or he just has the name?
Jill had stock in Consulier Ind. she just got a check for for stock.
The company is closed down.
They were in medical device manufacturing.

Can she buy a MT900 with her stock proceeds?

Then one day she will be in the same situation we are …going back to the factory to get parts….maybe.
No thanks.
Sorry to say it but she wants a Corvette if she gets a two seater.
She delivered a TEC tuned Corvette to California and had a blast.
Thats after driving every MT900 and lots of other sports/super cars.

Damn spell check changed it to a Corvette. When I'm sure you typed in something else like a m4 or maybe a 911

Hey thats her choice.
I looked up the M4 looks fun for sure.
If I had to pick a "dumb Porsche" I would pick a 914-6 that is my favorite one.

But if I had one, it would have to be a C5, C6 or a C7.

Hello,
i will start a new thread but just wanted to update folks since car arrived....

in general I am super happy, car is a blast to drive. Thanks to everyone on the forum that has helped me so far.

I needed help with what assorted unmarked pull knobs did... But I think no one is 100% sure what all of them do...

I am going to do the grainger valve as the car is over boosting. I have had many European turbo cars but never have encountered this problem- is it due to less sophisticated engine management?

Was as worried that the car's structure was damaged as the passenger side door did not close properly - it had a huge gap- but then I was told to shut it HARD ! The door closes properly when slammed. ( I had taught my kids to never ever slam a car door...the gtp is a different beast)

still am getting to know the car. Have run it around an outlaw autocross course (will post the video later) and was very impressed with car till we got the overboost. But the handling is superb.

Thanks again

The knob situation plagues us all I think. My car has a fader knob on the dash for the speakers, but Aarons targa does not.
He swears the "heat" knob is a turn knob, but it feels more like a push/pull knob on mine... without pulling the underside of the dash and poking around in there to see what it moves, I may never know for sure.
It's odd that it's over boosting but it could be a bad map or baro sensor or a number of things. Mine had a bad map when I got it.
It's not that the engine management is too simple. Does you car have the vacuum diagrams under the "hood" start there and make sure it's all hooked up correctly and the hoses are good.
The doors on mine were like that too until I changed the door seals. Even now they still do it a little.
Glad you're having some fun. They are truly amazing vehicles, easy to drive, easy to go fast and very forgiving.

I'm not mechanic nor do I pretend to play one but with my turbo dodges, The internal wastegate setup caused most of my boosting issues...most have been underboosting thou and not spiking. Do a quick search for boost spike or creep and you'll get all the information you need.

I do have brand new GTP computers if you would like to buy one but that is likely not your issue.

Of course the first thing to check would the vacuum lines and the wastegate can actuator.

As for anything non motor related, these cars as you see are anything but refined.....They are truly a race car for the street. The series 2 cars much more so than the series 1 cars. At least the series 1 cars have a decent dash and door panel upholstery.

The knobs in these cars are a joke and I think they made the entire air flow system from a JEGS catalog. I know the mornings in Cali can be chilly but there will be plenty of heat coming into the cabin from the engine behind you. I stuffed a large piece of foam in one of the holes to keep the heat out.

For me AC is a must. with the widows down, the air comes into the cabin behind my head and the air circulation isn't the best. When I am driving with the windows down I find myself holding my hand out the window at an angle to get fresh air onto my face.

Oh and when I say with the windows down....that is if they decide to work at that particular moment in time :)

While cruising to a car show last September, my passenger window decided it didn't want to move anymore. Fortunately it was already in the UP position so I didn't have to worry about keeping the elements out.

Enjoy your ownership with the car. They all have their issues but the thrill of driving them, cruising around town, talking about them and racing them definitely makes you forget about their shortcomings.

This option works best with targa tops like Johnny's.
