i was planning on reusing the a555 that was in my SC on the 2.4 engine swap. however, i now would like to use the a413 out of my 89 2.5 minivan instead since it will be used mostly as a strip car (i.e. don't care about mileage!). i ASSUME they should swap boltwise without issue. however, is there a difference in axle positioning or will the auto case be alot bigger so it won't fit? don't want to go to alot of work for nothing.

Just swap all the guts from your a413 into a 31th (neon 3 speed). It will have the correct engine bolt pattern for your 2.4, but is otherwise interchangable with the trans from your minivan. The axles from the 555 will work as well.

don't have the 31th - figured i'ld use what i got laying around. i know i'ld need to fab up a hole or two for the TD trans mounting. thx.

Starter is on the wrong side of the block.

The only difference (externally) between the A413 and the 31TH is the starter location and a couple of bell housing bolts. Internally the 31TH got better stuff but everything is interchangeable. I understand wanting to use what you have lying around but maybe making a few phone calls to locate a case might make it worth your while for ease of installation.

If you paid yourself for the time it would take to modify the 413 to mate to the 2.4 (which I don't know of anybody that bothered to do since the 31th bolts right up) you could probably buy a few 31th's and have the time back.

I feel the same way about the OBX vs the Peloquin. For what you have to do the make the OBX work in the A413/31TH (I've installed both) in the end you're better off buying the Peloquin.
