I'm looking to go big boost so i started looking for a 4 bar MAP. I'd like to stick with the GM style unit. There's a lot of stuff out there lately, priced all over the place, from about $36 to well over $100. Anybody got any input on this?

I think this is the only suitable Map Sensor to use :)

+infinity to the Omnipower Map Sensor...Proven to work and be reliable. Both Reeves and I have been running their 4 bar map sensor on our Logic Modules for 3+ years and have encountered no issues with the Map Sensors.

$96???? I'll make my own with parts off of mouser for that price. Holy cow those things have gotten expensive.

Lol, I was just suggesting them because they say "Omni Power" though most of treadstones stuff is pretty good.

That is the same sensor I was running when I was 4 bar. Although they were a little cheaper back then. I think you can find them cheaper from other vendors.....no?

3 bar GM. I checked out Ebay and there were some that were $37, made in USA, some $69, some $125. This one from Smartfire for $39.99 has lifetime warranty.

Beware of any cheap 3 bar. I've got one in my drawer that was no good out of the box.

And some of the cheap ones don't use the 0-5v sensors, they go from 0.5 to 5v, so the output values are off from a "real" Map sensor which has an output range of 0 to 5v.

I have two of the $40 GM 4-bar Map sensors and have verified that their output is .5 to 5v. But I only got them for datalogging pressures, so it is no big deal. But I would not try to run my engine off of the $40 sensors.

Do any modern Diesels use map sensors? They seem to run pretty high boost.

Im trying to find the full specs on it but the 6.7 liter cummins has a TMAP sensor (map sensor with built in IAT). They run around 80 bucks at the dealer but can be cheaper in the aftermarket.

i agree, if you are boosting your engine into the 4 bar region, then i wouldnt want to risk major engine failure when one of, if not the most important sensor to your tune is wrong or fails...

what are you running now if you're not 4 bar?

I installed a Detec from an SRT-4 into the Charger when I put in the 95lb inj's to see if it would work, and it did. Since it clamps the 3 bar map, I don't need the 4 bar any more.

Not to clutter this up, but what's a detec? Actually I'll just look it up real fast. I don't get what you mean by " it clamps the 3-bar" but I will know soon!!

I'm curious too. Tell me more, Rob.

I am also looking to step up from the 3 bar to a 4 bar or higher for my TIII. Does anyone have any experience what MAP sensor works better with MPTune and the Turbonator tuning software (Stock ecu tuned). 45 Psi on E85 sounds like a bunch of fun.

I'm curious too. Tell me more, Rob.

It was a product made by TurboXS back when the SRT-4's were first out. Was one of the original "piggybacks" to the (uncracked at that time) PCM. Was the Only piggyback that really worked well. Uses a gameboy for the screen and is basically a sophisticated MAP clamp.

It intercepts the MAP signal and converts it into a fuel vs RPM table, allowing you to run larger inj's and pull fuel per RPM down low while leaving the fuel you need for added turbo/ boost up top. Because it manipulates the MAP reading, you will Never top out the sensor, so I could run 60psi boost if I wanted to.

Kicker is they stopped making them because the chips they were using got replaced and the replacement didn't work well with the software. (had a glitch were it would loose all memory if you disconnected the power)

They came in several different configs and I was lucky enough to get the full Monty. Boost controller/ fuel controller With wideband. (you could get it without wideband OR just the fuel controller)

Having the wideband allows for data logging of boost and fuel AFR's per rpm. I tuned several local SRT-4's using this and when I went to the 95lb inj's it made sense to me that it Could work without having to do anything to the cal.

I had the cal dialed it to 72lb inj's at the time. The Detec was set up to go from the stock SRT-4 580cc inj's to 750cc's, so that seemed pretty close to me going from 72lb to 95lb.

Like I said, took a chance and it worked, been using it ever since.

Thanks for the breakdown rob, I had no clue until I looked it up.

Your welcome. I've seen them come up on ebay every once in a while, but some ask big $'s and others seem a little sketchy on what you are getting. I found out early (while tuning the SRT-4's) that the Complete set-up is really the one to get.

Of course, I went this way years ago because I couldn't do my own cals and going long distance for cal changes was not convenient. There's really nothing it has that a good tuner can't accomplish now a days........

Good poing. I've been checking out all the options lately trying to figure out what would be the simplest for me. I'm not the least bit savvy with computers. If I have this correct, there's the ostrich (can be used permanently but a lot easier to burn a chip once you have the tune figured out and pop it in). Then there's the mptune/Willem or moates burners combo with the needed software of course. Is there something I'm missing?

No more thread jacking after shadow responds, I'll open a new thread. Sorry guys!
