Chris Greenhouse took the 2WD National win at Rallye Défi 2014. With codriver Billy Irvin calling the notes, the Cincinnati, Ohio, USA-based driver made a triumphant return to the winner's circle at one of Canada's toughest rallies. His Dodge Neon SRT4 escaped much of the heavy damage that adversely affected other competitors and carried him to victory.

"Strategy played an important part in this rally for us," said Chris after the event. "We needed to run the first four stages with no services in between, and they were quite rough with a large number of both loose and embedded rocks. Without giving up too much in pace, it was imperative that we kept the car from taking mechanical damage and punctures to the tires. We returned to service with no significant damage and a commanding lead that allowed us to drive very conservatively on the later stages."

After the heartbreak of mechanical failure while leading Baie-des-Chaleur in June, Chris was desperate for points at Defi. "This was a must-win event for us. We were too far behind in points to accept anything else. Now we are back in the hunt for the championship."

The team will now pack up and head west to beautiful British Columbia for the Pacific Forest Rally in October. Chris would like to thank A1 CVTech, JayRacing.com, Silco Fire Protection, Maddog STS, KW Automotive, O'reilly Auto Parts of Milford, Ohio, and Tire and Lube Express of Milford, Ohio.

Smart move. I got my best placing on a rally where black ice was setting in on the pavement sections, so I granny drove it, half the field was DNF, two cars written off completely. Not that that didn't have it's hairy moments either, feeling my way down a 1 in 4 hill that was super slick, and we had to turn into a lane about halfway down, and I'm not "on pace" as it were, trying to slow it right down, and my nav is telling me, "Not yet, another 300m" because he thinks I'm looking for the intersection, and I'm like "Screw the turn,at this point we're gonna be lucky to get a choice of which tree to hit with which end of the car..."

Doesn't that dent the roof?

Doesn't that dent the roof?

Yep. But its totally worth it. ;)

Considering the rather short life expectancy of roof steel on a rally car, it will get replaced soon enough.

Also, standing on the hood tends to damage the pivoting steel braided remote reservoir line on the top of the front struts, which results in a $200 part replacement and having to send them in to be repaired. The struts are REALLY tough and durable, but they have one little fragile part on them that is a giant PITA to fix.

Time for some in-car video!
