How would you go about cleaning or polishing snowflake rims? They have started peeling (clearcoat) and have dark spots on them. Any suggestions besides having them redipped?

You could use aircraft coating remover to take the rest of the Clear off and then mothers mag polish to get them to realy shine. you could have them powdercoated or chromed if you realy wanted.

I just did my buddy's bike wheels. Use aircraft stripper. Lets it sit on for 10 mins or so, then hit it with a pressure washer. It gets everything off. Then with some good polish and a high speed buffer you can make them look like chrome.

You might try stripping the wheels first ^^, then painting the recessed areas and wiping off the overspray with an acetone soaked rag. Polish the raised parts then clear coat.

Yeah, i got the same problem...flaking clearcoat on the rims.....Where do you find airplane coating stripper at? Will anything else work? Do the tires have to come off of the rims; or will the stripper not hurt rubber?

Citri-Strip can be found in Wal-Mart paint section. It will stay foamed and moist for hrs, extending the effective working time.
