battery relocation in L-body?

Has anyone here pulled off a G.Donovan and moved their battery to the front pass. side of their engine compartment? If so, any pics or advise on doing it? (I have already checked his site out, but was looking for a better pic)

Also, would that mower battery be enough to run on the car as an average-use driven car?

Im using the stock batery on the pass side of my rampage,the charcoal canister is removed and I made a tray using 1 inch angle has to cut a small part of the core support and it fits just right.Ill post a pic after I get one.Im not sure about the lawn mower batery.

I've had a few daily driven cars with lawnmower batteries and had no problems. Neither car had a fancy stereo or anything, and the experience I've had is that the little batteries only last me two years or so in a car, but at $19.99 to replace that's no big deal.

It's not an l body, but rather a p body. I kept my charcoal canister and added a generic battery hold down plate and hold down kit. I ran new battery cables from the old terminals in front of the rad to the battery. I just clamped the new wire into the old terminal and taped it closed. Been good for 3 years.

I use a 340 cca battery and it work fine, but the car's never winter driven. The best advise I could give is measure your available space before buying a battery, and buy the highest cranking rating you can fit. This did help weight distribution and when I added the sway bar shim- it does 2 wheel burnouts. Feel free to pm me any questions.

This was how I did mine only I had to cut a peice out of the core support to make it fit right as I can see you got your in much beter than I did.Thats a real good install.

i put mine in the hatch in a batt box from walmart gave me alot more room in the engine bay. looks good kyle

We relocated our Omni GLHT to the trunk actually.. ran the cables under the frame of the car.. .worked like a gem gave us a lot of room up front. :)

welded up a bracket and mounted it in there. turned out great IMO

On my Omni, I removed the charcoal canister and placed a plastic block in the flat area above the hole. The plastic block is bolted to the three holes that the charcoal canister used and provides a flat stable surface for the tray to sit on. Then I went to Walmart and got a cheap universal battery tray and cut it to fit and bolted that to the plastic block. The hold down is also from Walmart. It works great and keeps the battery from moving at all. I used some flat welding stock to make a support for the tray that bolts to the frame as well and keeps everything rigid.

I also had to cut my headlight connector apart because the plastic connector shell was hitting the battery so the headlight is now connected with spade connectors and insulated with heat shrink tubing. I used new universal battery cables from Checker Auto and cut them to fit my setup and used Tayler-Vertex battery terminal covers from Summit. I couldn't be happier with it...been on there for about three years now.

Well, with our FWD cars, if loosing weight is always good and loosing it from the rear is best then moving the battery to the hatch or trunk is a bad thing. I had moved my battery down and right back in 85 on my 84 Shelby but I used a bigger/heavier one. I made a plate under the right front bumper. I then made my cables from 0 gage alumumn. DaveJ

Depends on what you are intending to do. For drag racing, I would think leaving the battery up front would be a good thing. If you want your car to handle better, I would think relocating your battery to the hatch area would bring your car to a closer50/50 ratio which is ideal for road handling. Plus, your battery is completly out of the engine bay leaving a lot more room.

Im not a road racing guy but a good set of tires and Koni's/coilovers
will keep your rear tires planted. On the other hand trying to accelerate
out of a corner at speed I realy liked having the fuel and bat up front
where traction is needed.

A fully caged, strut towerd braced for/aft, coil over/Konied L-body
with only 2 gallons up front and a small bat is a pretty lethal combo
when your pacing a modified Evo thru an onramp.......I know :)
One reason I sold the car was knowing one day I would push it too
far, kick butt ride all the way around.

I am going to be using an Oddessey P850 in my LeBaron located in the passenger's tire well where the charcole canister is supposed to be...VERY small battery, good power, and it is lightweight....
