Well, I've almost got a daily driver. Drove the Z up to the station to put some gas in it, noticed a lot of noise/vibratioin - kind of low pitched, small vibration similar to what a wheel bearing would do.

So, I drove it back home and figured I'd look into the rear since it was the original on the '86. The brakes were making some scraping noise so I decided to go ahead and install the '89 CS vented rear brake axle. Complete axle bolted in and hooked up.

Now, the noise is still there. This leads me to believe it is coming from the front - '89 CS K-member with big brakes.

It doesn't sound like an axle, it sounds like a bearing. I figure it's either the wheel bearings or the diff bearings and I'm leaning towards wheel bearings.

What is involved in swapping out the front wheel bearings in the spindles? I've done plenty of rears, but never a front on a TD. What part numbers will I need?

It looks like once I solve this, the car can be driven regularly.

The bearing is held on with 4 bolts. Buy a new hub assembly, $100-? depending on where you get it from. Undo the 4 bolts, CV nut and off it comes.

Whew! $100 !?! What comes with the "hub assembly"? Can I not just replace the bearings?

Wow, just looked it up at Autozone.com...

Bearing $68
Seal $7

or

Hub Assembly $112

Wow, I never thought it would be that expensive!! Guess I'll make damn sure that is the problem before swapping them both out!!
