View Full Version : Flashable FourPlay?

So, I had a potential customer with a unique request - a flashable FourPlay. Basically, he wants to be able to flash up to 4 different cals to his SMEC, and switch between them while running.

It's not too difficult of a job to setup. Each individual cal will have to be flashed in the selected memory slot. Selection will be from a rotary switch, much like the current FourPlay. But, I'm also going to make a LED display to show the cal position.

It sounds like a pretty cool idea, so I'll probably make one up for my car, too.

Anyone else interested? My first stab at the cost is proabbly up near $225, installed with core supplied by the customer. Currently only planning to do this for the SMEC, but it could also be done on the SBEC if there's enough interest. I doubt I would stock either of these; they will likely be a one-time offering.

I'll make the next-gen standard FourPlay so that it can use the same switch/indicator, when I get it done.

I thought about this before also and never brought it to your attention. I thought a Flashable Double Play would be great for my T3 SBECII car. Being able to switch from a pump gas tune to a race gas or E85 tune would be great. It would be so nice to have the ability to tune both independently. I may be interested in this for the SBECII, I have been real close to ordering your flash-able chip (already socket-ed) and SCI cord and start tuning with MPTune.

how much to convert flashable smecs to this??? It'd be something I'd be interested in so I could have a Race and street tune.

Might be tough to convert an already flashable SMEC to a FourPlay Flash. Completely different module, board, etc. Getting the old one out of a SMEC will be the hard part...

I think it's a great idea! I can see it being an aid to tuning as well, load up what you think is "right", and bracket it with variations "on either side", then drive and see which is closest, then mod that cal to the next level, rise lather repeat...

I also like the idea of having various levels of tune, even a valet mode!

I think I'll be down for one, though I'd want the SBEC version...

I'd be in for one

Seems to be coming along. The SMEC board layout and the indicator switch layout are done.

I need to test one thing on my racecar. If it works, then these will have another special feature I've been meaning to do for a while. :)

I'll also start on the layout for the SBEC version this week.

Finally, I redesigned the standard chip-based FourPlay so it can also use the indicator switch. I still have a bunch of the 'old' boards, so I'm not sure when I'll order those.

Wow, this thing has been sitting on my bench for 4 months? Finally got it installed today and it works! I need to make 1 adjustment to the board layout and order 'production' boards. These will be available on BoostButton.com in a couple of weeks.

acannel is also helping with a plastic housing for the Digital Switch/Display.

I don't know if there's a list for these but I most definitely want one. I have a factory SMEC core

No list. As soon as I get the boards revised and on order, I'll add them to the store.

I'll be sure to post here when they're up for sale.

So, you would modify an unmolested SMEC board. I have one and would be interested in a four-play.

It almost has to be. This board is large and would be too tall if it's in a socket. My intention is to mount it directly to the SMEC.

Also doable on a SBEC?...

Yep. Board L/O is in process...

SMEC boards are on the way. SBEC board L/O is really tricky. Need to make some custom 'components' for Eagle (CAD L/O Program) to get it the way I want it...

SMEC boards are in! I'll have them up in the store hopefully later tonight.

The DigiSwitch still needs a housing.

SBEC Flashable FourPlay board layout is done. I'll order those with the next batch.

SBEC Boards are done and tested. I just put one in the SBEC for my race car.

Now to finish the bezels for the Digital Switches I made up...

Bezels are done! I found some VDO 'blank' gauge faces (normally used to fill in a gauge hole when a gauge is not being used, I guess). Made a jig to cut them out for the Digi Switch. I'll have these up for sale as soon as I can get some pics of it for the website, and get it in the catalog.

The switch all powered up, in case you missed it.

This switch/display is able to be used with (but isn't required, a simple rotary switch can still be used) my new Flashable FourPlay for both the SMEC and SBEC; as well as the latest FourPlay boards for the LM. It can theoretically be retrofitted to an older FourPlay board, but that would require soldering directly to the power pin on the board and might be a bit tricky.

Any trade in deals for a flashable smec? Is the boot switch part of the 4 way switch too?

I could consider a trade-in.

The FourPlay switch doesn't have the boot switch in it, but I guess it could. Maybe in the next version.
