I have the 1985 pizza wheels on my 85 charger, but they are a mess. Really dirty and dull. What can I do to clean them up?

First you need a can of spray on paint remover for aluminum. You can get it at wallmart. Its called Aircraft Paint Remover. Spray on liberally and wipe off with rag and plenty of water(pressure washer if available).

Next you need one of these handy little sanders and the attaching 320grit pads. This may not seem like it but DO A GOOD job at gettang ALL the scratches and nicks out with the 320 grit. On the finished product these show up as faint shadows or black spots if not eliminated.

After this is done. Throw the rim in a tub full of water and take at it BY HAND with 1500 grit wetpaper and then 2000 grit wetsand paper untill its all TOTALLY smooth. It will be super smooth when done.. not totally shiney.. but SMOOTH.

Next take the pad OFF the electric sander and wrap the sander with a soft, clean cotton rag. Go over them with 1500grit rubbing compound. This gives it the final smoothness it needs for that MIRROR finished look. After this, using another clean rag,use MOTHERS MAG POLISH..you will be WOW'ed as you see these things start to shimmer like mercury!!

Worth all this effort?? Depends what you want. I know I wanted BLING!!

Doing my set now. Just getting rid of the clearcoat made them look better. I'll post a pic when I'm done.

Original.
