Hatch lift support "upgrade"

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the stock lift supports that use the ball/socket style attachment?

I've always been able to find replacements at auto parts stores. Are you looking for something other than a direct replacement part?

Yes and no. I was looking to switch to a ball/socket style attachment, but will probably just get the stock replacements.
