So when I bought this car it was pretty much missing all the paint on the hood, roof, hatch, and tops of doors. Drivers side front fender was replaced with one paint black, most of the plastics are cracked, but the previous owner included good condition plastics, just they are red in color. So two days ago I started working on the paint issues. Don't have a garage or paint booth so just doing small sections at a time. Started off with just the roof as it was the worst. Almost to the point of the surface rust being more than just surface rust. After sanding it down, there were small pits in the metal. Hit it with some Rustoleum Black "rust reformer" that supposed to turn rust into a paintable coating.

Let that dry overnight and next day went out and sprayed gray primer on the top of the roof, then started working on the hatch area. Did the same treatment of the black base coat after sanding, left it all masked off overnight and today hit it with the gray primer. Not the most ideal conditions for painting as it's outside in the elements and last two days has been slight wind, and I'm using rattle cans.

Wow, that looks way better! Spay can or did you use an actual gun? Regardless it looks good.

Just the rattle can spray. Sucks trying to paint in the wind and get even coverage. Most of it blew away and with the black on the hatch had quite a few runs. Did a little better with the gray primer, but still not quite even coverage. Regardless it does look a lot better than rust.

Uniform color wins over patina any day of the week. One day you'll get it done properly, but for now that looks really good. I had to wait about a year to get mine done, but Cordes and I did it ourselves and it was quite the task. I was trying to work my job (remotely) and spending one full week painting about 12-14 hours a day about 7 days straight, if not longer. And to boot, it was 100* every day, not to mention being in a paint suit.

Yeah, that wasn't the most fun but the results make it well worth it.

That roof does look way better. Any paint is better than nothing at all, but that looks at least decent to boot. Nice work.

Your Daytona most likely will get the most exposure as it's moving down the road...a spray can touch-up might compare to a quality paint job as you whisk on by :thumb:

It's definitely going to be a 20' paint job for now. My truck is the same say. Looks good in pictures and from about 20' away, but up close you can see all the problems with the paint.

That's why I work remotely. :) I haven't bought 4 cars all over creation because I have a 9-5 desk job. :D

Took off the spoiler and finished the rest of the hatch today. One problem. I broke one of the studs for the spoiler. They threaded out of the spoiler and stayed in the hatch and as I was trying to unscrew the nut to take them off the hatch the first stud I tried snapped off. I left the other three on the car so I wouldn't break them as well and can still re-install the spoiler. Anyone know where I could get 1 or even 4 new studs for the spoiler?

Finished the rest of the hatch and sanded and primered the spoiler/wing.

Did a little more on the car today. Rear dirvers quarter done. Just need to spray the spoiler and put it back together. There was some previous body work on on the drivers rear. Found some bondo and a crappy re-spray of white over top the factory paint. They didn't pull the spoiler when they sprayed it and the thin coat was flaking off.

Drivers door halfway done. Waitign on bottom to dry so I can tape off body line and do top in gray.

Been a while since I've done anything to the paint but today was bored so did some more. Got passengers side front fender done and played around with masking on the hood.

For a rattle can job, that's looking really good. Even if it's not show quality, I'm liking how this is going.

Agreed. Plus you know that I'm a sucker for a white Daytona with a sunroof.
