Saw this at a car show on Sat, had never seen one, so I googled it, and found this Facebook page with a history of the car. Thought I'd share.

Nope, it was built and sold through the SAAC with Shelby's blessing, albeit without his name. Hemmings had an article on one a couple months ago.

So...what was is the deal with these? What special tings did they do to them? Are they similar to the Saleen offerings (which at that time were more than just a sticker and body kit package).

His name was on it. Here is the nose badge that made me take a closer look. It also said shelby on the manifold. viper development was going on during this time, so maybe he had his hand in two pots.

Shelby didn't have his hands in two pies. This car was only licensed to use his name. SAAC did some development with the cooperation of Ford engineering.

I got that from the info on the website in the first post. :thumb:

Wasn't he tight with saac at the time though?

Here's the full article with pics from Hemmings.

Ok, I guess you have to have log-in info to read the online article, and I don't remember mine. Guess I'll have to grab it off the back of the toilet and re-read it.

Based on some of the reading that I've done, it's my opinion (and only my opinion) that this SAAC MKI, along with SAAC excluding our cars at their conventions, and some of the other SAAC business ventures ($300 registry books), is what contributed to the falling out between Carroll and SAAC.
